IIRC, Some video cards (like the trident in my brother's laptop) just can't use OpenGL because the drivers don't support it.
If that's the case, then you're out of luck. You have to use Direct3D (try getting some low poly models and look at <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8100' target='_blank'>this thread</a> to increase your performance. Or, you could buy a new video card.
However, if your video card is made by NVidia or ATI, or some other big manufacturer, then try to reinstall your video card drivers. You can get these at www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com.
