What do you think of doom 3?
What do you guys think of Doom 3?
The only thing i hate about it is the mouse system, its not like Counter Strike or Natural Selection. It laggs abit behind your mouse. When you play Doom3, make sure you play at 12:00 and you have a decent sound system prefferably 5.1. The sound is breath taking you can hear monsters crawl up behind you and suddenly you turn around and shoot, It came to times where you are practiclly screaming because its so realistic and the graphics are absoulutly amazing.

It's a good game, but has a few flaws. The biggest offender that I found (from the demo) is the shotgun - it's *just* shy of being a useless peice of cr*p. The spread on it is so wide you literally have to be touching your target to do any damage.

I loved it, but apparently if you enjoyed the game you're nothing but a stupid fanboy, because hating DOOM3 is the popular thing to do.

for all the crap people say about it, I rather enjoyed it, I had doubts that i would be able to run it but my PC surpriesed me. and It works rather well for me.

There were a few points where I think I almost pooed my self too.

Like when my roomate snuck up behind me (Had headphones on and was sitting in complete dark)

and he suddenly jerked me backwards in my rocky chair. that bastard lol

I was like "OMG" and my heart definitly skipped a beat.

replay value is kinda... well meh..

but either way i enjoyed it.

    PS

I like the shotgun. Its great for running up to those imps and zombies and just sticking it in their faces.

It's okay, but luckily I wasn't too excited about it, otherwise it would have been more of a let-down.

I hate walls that slide down once you've past, revealing a secret room with monsters in. It's not scary to have monsters appear behind you with little warning, it's annoying.

    Hmm....what do I think about D3?

Beginning when you start your first game :
    Imp : *SCREEECH*
    Player : OMG! *craps ponce*

    1 hour later
    Imp : *SCREEE--bang*

Sums it up pretty nicely for me.

I rather enjoyed DOOM 3 enough to grant it my 2nd favorite game status. Not because it was particularly excellent design, or anything like that- but because it HELD ME LIKE NO GAME I'VE PLAYED in years! I litterally would jump back at times, totally freaked. I would get cocky at points, then get the crap totally scared out of me. I'd just barely start getting bored- and suddenly, more of those effing demons showed up.

I love DOOM 3. To quote the PCG review, this sums up my experience pretty well:

I think doom 3 is it alright to me but im not keen in the idea of just shooting blokes i think there should more diverse range of targets to shoot from.

My favourite enemy of those cherubs they are fantasticn to shoot at but i was not keen on the cacodemons they looks like a dinosaurs head

Hated it. It was about as scary as playing tetris in the dark, you allways have enough ammo, monsters are allmost dumber than doom 2, they allways alert you to their presence unless their zombies which are slow and predictable anyway. Just a guess but monsters are so dumbed down because they expect you to run around with a flashlight to see anything and switch back and forth so they have to give you a break.

Overall I still today would much rather play doom 1 or 2.

Bah, the physics weren't all that great. The definitely don't stand up to Havok quality physics, that is for sure.. I had a lot more fun with the physics in Max Payne 2 and Painkiller than the physics in D3 =/
Also, there just wasn't much in the game that made use of the physics.. I'm trying to figure out just how you managed to play with the physics when all I can remember when I think of physics is a lamp, a couple pop cans and some boxes.. I mean, the lamp way pretty cool because of the dynamic lighting so it cast its light all over the place.. that was nice. The can amused me for a while and the boxes.. well.. the boxes sucked.

I didn't want to buy D3 when it came out, but I'm played it at a LAN a few times. The graphics aren't as impressive as I thought they should be. The lighting is perhaps the best part of the game, without a doubt, but I wasn't impressed overall. It was fun playing it, but after a while, some things just got old. I will admit though, the sound design in the game is great, and always well timed.

Also, for all of you that freaked out about the Imp coming from under the stairs at one point, what's the big deal? A full hit to the face with my shotty reduced him pretty well.

I thought it was brilliant. Great fun, great atmosphere, cool lighting effects and immaculate level design.

However, its not a game im compelled to replay. While there is a respectable variety of enemies and weapons, the gameplay is very repetitious and most of the thrills rely on heavily scripted ambushes. The MP lacks substance too, it wasnt enough to sustain my interest for more than a week or so.

No, but any normal shotgun - at a range of 5 feet & aimed at the neck area of a humanoid zombie - should rip the head of that zombie off and take a good portion of the shoulders as well. Not have 80% of the pellets go over it's head so the zombie lurches a little. I'm not kidding when I say this zombie doesn't die when I pull the trigger on easy!

Did anyone else notice an increase in the physics if you went from using a medium machine to a good machine? Doom was amazingly different when I upgraded to 1gig of ram and a 9800 pro. everything ragdolled quite well, if not a little artificial.

Yeah its a shame you cant appeciate this due to the way bodies instantly disintegrate when they die. At least give me 5 seconds too appeciate the carnage before you start lowering the precious polygon count.

I think everyone had the same problem with D3, it got a bit stale rather early into the game. By half way through, I threw it into god mode, pulled out the chainsaw and had at it. I think in the begining when you aren't used to it, the game is fine, but at the end, they shoulda done what they did with classic Doom. Enter a room, hoard of monsters, proceed to smash. The problem with them doing this is that over half of their monsters are melee ONLY. And some of the ones with ranged attacks, prefer to rush you and get into melee. Imps were fireball flining turrets in the previous Dooms, not slowly advancing shock troopers. In the orginial dooms, you can count on one hand the amount of melee creatures there were. In D3, I think I'm on my toes right now as to how many they are. When the scary bits wears off later on, they should be throwing pure action at you with some bits of fear, that is what should have been done in the later levels. Unfortunatly, it follows it's formula and is the same throughout. Not to meniton that it doesn't have the stellar AI promised. Enter room A, monsters pop out, take cover behind box and fire pop out occasionally to fire. Monsters close in instead of holding ground, pull out shotgun, own. They needed to mix it up better and I'm sure there would be a contest between D3 and HL2 when the holiday season hit.

Well, thats it. I counted, I killed an imp with my old machine, they did not ragdoll and vaporized instantly nearly after death. On my new machine they didn't fizzle till the body came still. ( and if the fizzile truly annoys you download the mod to stop it )
