The majority of the topics locked are so because the idea is infeasible for the current build or has already been suggested/denied several times/has been specifically labelled in the FAQ.
Mind showing us what topics you think were unfairly locked, other than simply scrutinizing the opinions of several board members and the moderative team?
Yes, more input please. I'm under strict orders from Zunni not to touch any ideas in the main body of I&S, no matter how outlandish, except those that clearly break forum rules. (repeat of locked thread, suggesting something already given a nay in the FAQ, etc.) So if I've locked anything you can be sure that it's locked because it simply broke the rules. And Zunni's locks, as far as I've seen, are all quite fair. He leaves quite a few threads open even when there's almost zero chance of them ever being moved, as long as there's a thread of useful thought worth pursuing in them.
Bear in mind that you can't have it both ways. Either I&S is strictly controlled, and ideas with no chance are locked after hanging around for a day or two (thus allowing us some way of dealing with the massive flood of ideas), or you have the old style I&S, where people are free to brainstorm crazy ideas all day long... but the devs will never EVER look at them. Which do you prefer?

The strict monitoring of the I&S forum is the best thing that has happened to these forums in a long time. It's much more productive the way it is now. Cookies to Zunni for doing it.

I'd also like to remind all members that regardless of who locked your thread and where it was, you are encouraged to PM the staff member who locked it if you have any questions or complaints about why it happened.
Just because one person thinks it's a good idea, or several people think it's a good idea for that matter, doesn't make it a good idea.
Lets go with an example- Hitlers plan to solve Germanys economic problem. Quite a few people liked the idea at the time. Was it a good one? Not really, no.

Though some topics are arguable reasonable and DO get locked, for the most part, the ones that are totally inplausible (OMG A $C0RP1AN THAT H0V4R$) get locked while reasonable ones are given a chance. This isn't to say that it's perfect, but at least it's better than IS a year ago.

Well if you have an issue with Zunni locking a thread, just PM him with a good reason why you think it deserves to be unlocked. If he agrees with you he will unlock the thread.
I've PM'ed Zunni on a few occasions regarding locks, he seems very receptive to explanations and clarification to ideas and has on a few occasions unlocked threads which have been explained (or had further discussion possibilities explained) and developed in PM's to him.

Wow, ever since my new role, I have never seen my name mentioned before
A few things:
X5 is 100% correct, though I try to fight my biases, they still creep in from time to time, occasionally ideas that have merit do get locked..
A quick PM to me, with more explanation as to why this idea is valid will get them unlocked..
I'm human and therefore make mistakes.. I try to stay out of I&S when I'm having a bad day though, it tends to make me much more quick on the lock button..
---
The way the sub-forums are organized currently may not make sense as the items set for B6 have been set for over a month now.. So my moving things into "upcoming version" may not make sense.
I feel "upcoming version" is a good place for ideas which could be added fairly quickly depending on extra time.. So for example if we have more programming time, I can run in there and grab a few ideas and let the devs pick one and implement it.. This doesn't mean that when B6 is released that this forum will be emptied, they continue to be mostly polish ideas that still work for the next version...
As for the future version forum, those are longer term, higher scope items that really need to be sat down and discussed with the dev team before any of these are looked at being implemented. They may not be programmically feasible (too much time/effort) or even fit the direction Flay wants to go, but still are valid thoughts and therefore will stick around. Future Ideas is where I hope to dig when B6 is released and we have our next "feature grab" where we start discussing new features..
I know Flay has several ideas already as to new features, but I'm hoping to get an audience in our next dev meeting to bring up a few of the more popular ideas in that area.
------
Locking more.. I try to be fairly aggresive but yet allow for logic to prevail.. If nothing logically speaking stops an idea from being possible I'll try to move it and let Bob do some additional monitoring. But if there is a good point that basically deflates the initial idea, then I'll lock..
------
The old I&S was messy, duplicate and flamed topics floated while good ideas sank, I hope the work I'm doing helps that a bit..
-------
Part of the reason I delete more and lock less, is because the old I&S had 11,000 + posts.. How many do you think were bad?? It's simply taking up space and providing limited benefit (ability to search for bad ideas before you post them I suppose, but if bad ideas are being brought up over and over again, they become a candidate for the FAQ) I'm trying to keep the overall number of posting in the main body of I&S down... Only time will tell what kind of a job I'm doing
------
To the original poster, it's VERY VERY rare, where I out and out dismiss an idea, there generally is 2-5 others who agree.. If I dismiss an idea outright, then It's probably stepped on teh toes of a FAQ posting.. Which I'm continuing to add to as ideas that will not be considered are mentioned over and over..
----
@X5, I'll review these and we can carry on that conversation in PM....
-----
I am not hiding from the public, if you have a question for me, ask I'll do my best to answer it..

I would lock this type of thread 100% of the time.
I think zunni is helping out the I&S forums a lot, and yeah the more locked threads the better, hell just keep locking them in that forum, lock lock lock

the threads are locked before other people can offer the insight on how the idea can be developed and futher enhanced.
