Planning On Upgrading My System
<div class="IPBDescription">Need some advice.</div> My current system
Processor: Pentium 4 2.4 GHz (The first one which came out, not the b/c version)
Ram: 768 MB of DDR 333 MHz ram
Harddrive: 120 GB 7200 RPM IBM harddisk
Video Card: Built By ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128mb
Motherboard: Asus P4S8X
Soundcard: Using onboard sound.
I'm thinking of upgrading my processor and motherboard. I'm not going to go for another Pentium so I thought of getting a Athlon XP 3000 (Barton), but I'm not sure what motherboard to buy.

Upgrading to a pentium is a waste of cash no matter how you fling your stick.

I live in Singapore so all the prices here are exactly twice as much as your american prices. Need advice please. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You buy your comps for Dell or something? Jesus! this is singapore, we are in asia... Computer parts are cheap as crap.
Hahahah.. Ever heard of Sim Lim square? Around Raffles City, everything is half US prices, that is, if you want to build it yourself. Getting the shop to do it for you is 200 more or so.
I got :
3 ghz intel pentium 4
geforce fx5800
latest gigabyte mother board (installed sound card, can run surround sound)
17'' inch flat panel monitor (CMV)
2 gig DDR ram (4x512 with cooling)
2 fans
case
80GB HD
Creative (Local Company!) 5.1 surround sound
for Sing 2800. The store is on the fifth floor, turn right after you come out the elevator. Very reliable service, has warranty, good quality. Trust me.
I wouldn't go for an Athlon 64 processor. I don't know where you live, i'm on the east coast. But just running a Pentium 4 generates enough heat to bake a cake. Athlon 64 processors are even hotter, so I suggest you stick with pentium, because of the climate. Unless you always run your comp in complete air con goodness, which so many people do.
ATI Radeon X800 XT $1024 Singapore dollars, go figure..
EDIT: You bought an FX card? Crazy...
FSB 800/dual channel DDR400/AGP8x
AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 Box Socket 939
Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPRO PC3200, 400 MHz
Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPRO PC3200, 400 MHz
Asus Radeon AX800XT 256Mb
DiamondMax Plus 10 300GB 16MB Cache 7200RPM S-ATA
Yes you get a boost with 64 bit but with the money saved you can do alot better once its the standard
