So, my parents left for the weekend, and of course I organize a get together of friends for some Lan/console fun. But now my TV's are being kinda dead.
To start it off, I had digital cable, with this kind of setup: wall -> digital cable box -> VCR -> TV. That setup has been working fine for a few years. We go to hook the xbox up, but only got sound.
Then I try and hook the digital cable back up, but now I get no sound or picture from it. We then hooked the xbox up to another TV where it worked fine. I then dragged another one of my TV's upstairs, and hooked it into the original setup above, and it works fine. I have been trying nearly all night, its not stupid loose cable or anything like, I have tried everything 3 times over.
The original TV that now won't display any form of digital cable, and will only play sound from the Xbox, but I can still bring up menu's and change channels on it so the picture tube isn't shot. My only guess is some convertor that converts incoming image to display is dead. But then the xbox and digital cable use totally different input jacks...
help?

It sounds like an RF/Antenna cable, cable uses the type the screws into your antenna outlet, I'm not sure about digital cable. It does sound like the sort of problem where your pin in the cable will fall into the hole in the cable or snap off. For that you should just be able to replace the cable fairly easily.
If it connects with an S-Video cable, they can be expensive but you can find those at hardware stores too.
If it connects with AV inputs, I'd suggest just plugging your Xbox in with the AV inputs (because it will work without the cable going in, and if you have a link cable you don't really need the digital cable.
So I guess I'm just kind of wondering what type of cable comes out of your cable box?
The cable coming from the VCR -> TV is a basic coaxial cable. The pin is fine on it, and like I said, it only doesn't work on that TV. I hooked another TV up to to using the same cables, and it worked fine.
The cable the xbox is using is, um, the 3 pronged one. White, Red and Yellow. Not sure what it is called. I plug those directly into the back of the TV, and like I said, we get sound, but no video. Using the same cables and xbox, it works on other TV's.
If you get sound with the AV cable (red, white and yellow) but no picture you might not be on your line/video channel (usually the remote will have a Video 1, Video 2 or Line button on it - but I think you would have known this already).
If nothing else, you can try unplugging it from power for 10 minutes (or a few more) and then try it again. Some electronics have automatic resets where if they have the power off for a while they reset to their factory settings....I'm not sure what you could screw up with a TV, but maybe it would help).
Since you're going through the VCR you might need to have your VCR's power on (something I seem to forget whenever I have a setup like this (heh, you should see how I have a DC, PS, Xbox, DVD player, Nintendo, Genesis and VCR all hooked up to one TV with minimal video loss)...in fact, you can see it in that one "Look how dirty my room is" thread) to get the video signal to go to the TV right (which is why I ask if you can play a tape on it). If it's always going through your VCR - instead of right to the TV - you could try to see if a different VCR wants to get the cable signal through.
thanks
try ussing the compoisite cables to go from VCR to TV (intead of coax)
and did you try (as UltimaGecko said) to switch video modes?
this is geenraly either from a TV/Video button on the front of the TV or from internal menus.
