<div class="IPBDescription">Your Views And Opinions?</div> Ok here's the deal,
I want to play Counter-Strike: Source for various reasons
but I also want to buy Half-Life 2 on DVD/CD-ROM's when
they hit store shelves.
So buying CS: Source via Steam pretty much forces me
to take Half-Life 2 , which I don't want to do for back-up reasons.
(For example, I seem to format my machine every 2/3 months
or so, now when I come to re-installing Half-Life 2, i'd rather
do it with DVD/CD-ROM's rather than wait for Steam to download
many many gig's of information over an already struggling network.)
Why I can't just buy Counter-Strike: Source on it's own
or have some sort of 3 day trial or something, is beyond me.
If Valve were to release a new version of Hammer for CS: Source
within the next week or so (highly doubt it) then i'd be much more
tempted to purchase the Silver or Gold package. But until then,
i sit here, pondering.
So, what do you guys think of the Steam/Half-Life 2 packages situation?
Anyone purchased Counter-Strike: Source and not happy with the $$$
they shelled out ?

You can easilly backup the GCF files(and the other stuff). You just need say 1 DVDR. Hmm..if you wanted to do it on CD you would need a program to spilt the GCFs....
But yeah, just get Silver(Like I did) and back it up on CD(Like I havn't done yet)
Can anyone tell me how big the Counter-Strike: Source .gcf
file is? I don't have a DVD burner at present but have been
considering one for a while.
Depending on file sizes and such, I may purchase the Silver
package tonight.
But, The Matrix Online is due for it's beta testing later today
and as a FilePlanet Subscriber, i'm, apparently, eligible (is
that spelt right?) for trying it.
So it's now a case of how bored I get tonight. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So I haven't been playing HL and its mods since steam was released.
Now, the Silver package is a real beauty in my position.
Not only will you get HL2, HL: Source, DoD: Source; you also get the whole back catalog (HL: platinum, CS:CZ, DoD).
HL2, HL, HL:Source, DoD: Source, CS, CS:CZ, DoD, HL's mods for less than $60.
Talk about a steal.
Also, does vavle (legaly) allow us to burn the dvd image we get from the silver or gold packages?
Gold - Fanboi big-fish package.
Silver - Just right.
Just like goldylox...
Wait...
Didn't she get eaten by the bears when they came back?>_>
In fact, continue the discussion there. I'd like to keep that one alive for some more votes.
