<div class="IPBDescription">compile error</div> I know there are alot of info about this one, and yes, I've searched alot but nothing has helped.

I just got my new computer and I installed all the compiling tools and stuff. It's the first time I'm using Steam (mapped for NS 2.0 'til now) so I read the guides on how to set it up. When I compile an extremely simple testmap, I get this:

I can't find any errors in the compile log before the last process of the file execution. It works fine if I disable that last command. And yes, it works with the BatchCompiler but I want it to work in Hammer too, so I can compile smaller testmaps faster.

Many people have their Steam-accounts as e-mail adresses in the folders? I only have a nick and no @xxx or something.

Thanks for any help.

I'm too lazy to investigate further but something is clearly wrong, like spaces in your VHE dir name and the fact that your steam account has no e-mail folder...

    Change:
    +map "E:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxx\half-life\ns\maps\test1.bsp"

    To:
    +map test1

Hmm, well, I have just made an ordinary Hammer installation, nothing else. Should I do anything else when migrating to Steam? I don't know about the e-mail-thing. I'll check the Steam-FAQ for answers.

Well, it isn't me who is creating that path, in the compile options I've written "$file" (also tried things like "$bspdir\$file$.ext" or ".bsp" and stuff. It just changes it to the real path-name in the compile log. I'll try writing the mapname, but I shouldn't have to <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Thanks for the advice.

EDIT: nah, couldn't find anything about it on steampowered.com. Didn't work to change the compile parameter either. I don't know what to do <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Help will be greatly appreciated.

This is not a valid command.

It should be Steam.exe -applaunch 70 -game ns -console -dev +map "E:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxx\half-life\ns\maps\test1.bsp"

Its trying to copy <span style='color:red'>-applaunch 70 -game ns -console -dev +map</span> "E:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxx\half-life\ns\maps\test1.bsp"
    Which is invalid.

You've added the <span style='color:red'>-applaunch 70 -game ns -console -dev +map</span> "E:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxx\half-life\ns\maps\test1.bsp" in the wrong place.

    edit:
E.G. remove or move the paramaters in the 'Copy File' portion of the batch. The invalid string should be on the game executable.

    Thanks for the advice, but....

My Copy File-commandline already has the parameter "$path\$file.bsp $bspdir\$file.bsp" and my Game-commandline has the parameter "$game_exe -applaunch 70 -game ns -console -dev +map $file", so I guess I already have set it up like you tell me to do? I tried changing the "$game_exe..." to "$steam.exe..." but it didn't work. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'd re-configure your batch, or write your own (i use my own)

i used to have problems with windows xp denying access to my steam folder, it had some wierd wriite protection on everything and was **** to try to fix so i just found my old hl cd, installed it, and put ns 2.0 on there and off i went. you can also put ns 3.0 on won, the only thing that dont work right is the chat bar (that dark line that goes across screen when you press y) it looks like a barcode, but when you press enter it shows up correctly.

i would try that if you have a copy of won hl. the problem would be finding a copy of ns 2.0, since its not on the main site anymore.

It is obvious: You used 'Copy File' when you should use 'Executable'... What you tried to do was copy the file using invalid parameters. You do not copy a file with -applaunch, -game, -console, -dev, or +map. Those are paramaters for STEAM.EXE.

I don't think $steam.exe is a valid variable. Try this:

    C:/Steam/Steam.exe -applaunch 70 -game ns -console -dev +map $file

Change it to whereever you have saved Steam.
