Well, in all fairness, it's not like the ModDB has ever been worth jack except for a few extra hits here and there.
However, yes, this HL2 mod business is a little out of hand. Wasn't this one formerly known as Operation Co-In or something? If it was, hoo boy. I remember that Valve IRC chat thing that happened and some of those guys were cussing out valve and acting like little spoiled kids left and right when their questions weren't answered... in a channel where all the Valve people were also idling. *sigh* that made me giggle.
why is it no one really wants to make a cool fantasy / sci-fi / anything but realistic mod ?

Why not? It seems to me that they have a solid design laid out, and have the talent and organization to pull it off. It may only be a collection of models and ideas right now, but the models are good and the ideas are coherent and well presented - more than one can say for most unreleased mods. Granted, I like to give people this thing called the "benefit of the doubt," which seems to be rather old-fashioned in this age of dev team burnouts, hype-overload and whiney forum users complaining about free products not being good enough.
From Halo 2's description as being on fire with flaming ninjas in hot pursuit (OLO PUN!), to HL2's 97% review in PCGamer (granted, we haven't seen the game yet, but I'm not going to form my entire opinion of the game based on one man's opinion of it.), hyperbole is in vogue. Sometimes, hype isn't truth. (read: Daikatana)
While making models requires skill, and is a good start, good models do not a mod make. While ModDB might think that Insurgency is a great idea, it is most certainly not a great mod, as it DOES NOT EXIST. HL2 is not out yet, so (in theory) it cannot be modded.
And remember kids, just because it's free doesn't mean it's above criticism! Do explode in orgasmic waves of joy every time you get a sore throat? Those are free.
I feel afraid for the time that HL2 comes out. More precisely, the few months after, when sites will be filled with the latest mod downloads and patches and patches and more downloads... I'll just wait a year or two for the bad mods to be filtered out and then play the good ones (The Pit! YEAH!)
A few points to be heard. First of all, MODDB came to us, and selected us for this award. Of course, we were honored, and at the same time, we had the same feelings that you are all expressing. We understand that our mod is not playable at the moment. Just keep that in mind guys, that we are not declaring ourselves mod of the month or anything when we are aware we do not have a playable mod at the moment, we were chosen.
Here's a quote by the person who ran this article, defending his decision choosing Insurgency as the MOTM:

QUOTE (Steelwind)

If I'm not mistaken, the Mod of the Month award goes to the development team that encompasses all of the nuances of the artform. It goes to the mod that demonstrates artistic merit, organization, determination, and creativity. A final product doesn't always have to be released to demonstrate the traits and characteristics of a development team. We give out this award to any team that has consistenly shown a true spirit for game design and embodies that spirit on a regular basis. This month we felt that Insurgency fell into this catagory better than any other mod team. We stand by our selections and hope to give some recognition to the work being done in this industry.

I honestly hope that you guys do not have negative feelings toward INS just because we were chosen as MOTM. We are hard at work to produce the ideas we have presented. For those of you who consider us just another realism mod, I would suggest reading more on our features. We appreciate those of you who understand the situation.

My beef's with ModDB in general, not you guys, Jeremy. Any site with, well, a certain one of their news posters as an authoritative figure isn't to be trusted.
Hmm. In retrospect, I also didn't intend my last post to come off as an attack towards the team (if you're even the same guys); I just remembered hearing mention of the name change and that was the first event that came to mind. If anything was taken the wrong way in that post, I do apologize, though I do still get a chuckle out of that story
You've got a killer team; best of luck to you. And I'll take you guys over Nuclear Dawn any day. *twitches slightly at mention of that mod*

Amen to Jeremy. I've been following INS for just about a year now, and they always had it down with no problems. Plus, over half the team have military experience, so they know what they're doing.

This mod could very well turn out to have substance to it. It could be the next counterstrike. That makes no difference - without code or level architecture it is not a game; it doesn't exist yet! It's just a fantasy. And it sure as hell doesn't deserve to be promoted over games that actually do exist.
I wish the Insurgency team the best of luck, and it'd be wonderful if they do in fact produce something worthwhile in the end. But until they actually do...

just wait for the game before you start bashing it.
INS obviously isn't the new battlefield or desert combat (if you actually care to read up more info about it). Nor is it the new america's army. The theme may be unoriginal, but the gameplay concept is. The team is just out to create something fun, stop blaming em for that
I'm not flaming INS. I'm not blaming them for anything. The title of this thread even says "Neat looking Hl2 mod" I didnt call it the new Desert combat, or the new Americas Army. Its a first person shooter tactical realism mod with vehicles. Wait for the game before bashing it? sounds very fair to me. However It would make equal sense to wait for the game before praising it.
