Reformatting Causes Lag?

Recently a friend helped me reformat my computer. We did the job and installed all the neccisary drivers, but now for some reason every time I play NS I get terrible lag. I'm running Windows XP and we installed the LAN, USB, and Sound drivers, as well as one that lets me activate the internet and and my Radeon.

I never experienced this annoying amount of lag on the server I play on before my computer was reformatted so I'm wondering if there's some sort of update or driver I must install to fix this. I do not know <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> any ideas?

lag = network latency (aka ping)

is that what you are talking about?

if so that is not realy from hardware outside of NIC and modem.

you can use any of the guides here for improving ping.

Do you mean fps lag or ping lag? If you goto console, then type in "net_graph 3" without the quotes, you'll see fps and ping.

If your problem is ping, then you need to turn off P2P, scan for spyware/viruses, turn off anything that uses your internet connection or network heavily.

If your problem is fps, then go to your graphics card display properties, turn off AA/AF/Vsync, goto video properties in NS, turn the resolution down. Turn off any program that taxes your computer heavily.

im thinking network lag. fps lag doesnt even exist :| (people still call it lag tho)

try updating your modem drivers or NIC drivers. what chipset is the motherboard?
