How Nerdy Are We?

Which is the best liquid cooling unit?
I figured I would start this up because I haven't seen a good techy nerd discussion in a while...

What do you think is the best CPU liquid cooling unit readily available on the market today?

My descoveries...

The Thermaltake cooler has a neat little all copper block, but I don't know if that radiator looks up to specks for serious OCing needs...

[H]ard|OCP seems to like Koolance coolers...

What do you think?

For any cooling needs, or modding needs for that matter ,check out xoxide.com. Great prices, and a wide variety to choose from.

Personally if and when I do get WC, im getting this:

    http://www.xoxide.com/reserator.html

    http://store1.yimg.com/I/xoxide_1813_11718169
    http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/xoxide/zalman4.jpg

    Cheap and effective, and simple.

The Reserator is very quiet and sufficient for normal to moderate ICing use. I think it's too expensive for the moment, but hey if you're willing to dish bucks for watercooling, that's what I'll get. It's totally silent and can reasonably up your speed.

I think that for a top-notch set tuned for heavy overclocking, building your own set is the way to go. Check the tubing, the individual waterblocks, the pump and the reservoir according to your needs.

Thats what I was going to do, and I would still do it if it wasnt for the fact that its 100 more dollars then the reserator, and I know everything is compatible.

    Hmmm.. watercooling..
Just how Easy is it to install a watercooling set, and to overclock a 2500 barton into the 3200+ levels without problems of heat?
  • Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
Well it depends on the kit. There's new kits that are totally sealed and have an installation just as easy as any other heatsink: put WB on processor, set tank anywhere convenient and well ventilated (this can also be inside your unit) and make sure the tubing allows good flow. And voila!

Well I can only assume that an all copper water block is a good idea... I like the no fan heatsink tower as a resavoir, but when the temperature outside gets hot, it kinda defeats it's own pourpous... Maby run it into a fridge located nearby the computer or something

I would highy, highly not reccomend the reserator. For several reasons:
-Stupidly expensive, for that cash I could get some really nice blocks from DD along with other high quality parts
-HUGE, nobody realises how big this thing actually is.
-Crappy cooling, it's cooling is nowhere near on par with other cheaper pieces.
    -Tiny pipes, should be 1/2"

Here are my tips when setting up a water cooling system:
    - Don't use a commercial radiator, pick up either a transmission radiator from a car shop, or a heatercore from the same place. They will be 1/2 the price, and heatercores, by design, work much better then any kind of radiator.
    - I highly reccomend Dangerden blocks, they make some of the best and fairly priced. Only way to do better is make your own blocks imho
    - 1/2 " tubing. Almost everything is available with those size barbs now-adays, higher flowrate and lower friction = better cooling, and pumps that can use 1/2 inch and keep higher pressure are more readily available.
-Never try mixing metals, Ex: an aluminum radiator and a copper waterblock. 1 word= corrosion
    - Only ever use distilled water, trust me on this, tapwater= very bad
-Don't use the premade "all in one" external box kits, they are horrid and over-priced (ex: thermaltake aquarious)

Yeah so that's all I have to say.

There's also special fluids to put for added performance, or anti-corrosive stuff to put in your distilled water in order to preserve your components.

Dangerden blocks have an insane 'Friggin Awesome Meter' rating!

How do you get a transmisson radiator from a car shop to do what you want it too? I was under the impression that they didn't make those in all copper...

Holy cripes the have some nice radiators on the dangerden website...
