As for melee there's a bit of trickery and timing to it really. If I misjudge the lag distance on my first swing then I just jump over and strike them in the back. I'm pretty used to holding off till the last second now and rarely get hit unless I get overwhelmed or I'm distracted =3 I've recently been pulling off jumping stunts in combat that made megaman look like an easy game though including one that involved jumping in a gap between two badguys only big enough to exactly fit my character, jumping up onto a ledge over the head of one while managing to avoid the nasty on the ledge too followed by another jump over the 2 badguys now behind me... all flawlessly executed. I swear I was a ninja in another life or something <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I can see why the bowman, mage and assassin (stars) thieves are popular though XD
One piece of advice for melee though; if you're going to jump over something make sure it's running at you; I often whack things I'm not sure of to make them charge because if they stop while you try to vault them you'll just end up landing on them lol.
Okay, yesterday I spent what felt like half of the day killing snails and mushrooms. I finally got to level ten, but then I found out my friend managed to get to the same point within two hours. That stung. D:

Probably not the wisest choice for a newbie, since DEX and LUK seems pretty useless until I take my job. Attack damage went from 5-15 to 10-25. :D Stats are 20STR/25DEX/5INT/20LUK, but I have no idea why the hell I pumped the strength.
Thansal : I had to restart my character (bad stats) and I'm using a different name, which is ToddSaiko. Might use the other one when I make a warrior, though.

All other classes take much longer. Took my mage most of 2 days to do that.
Maple seriously subscribes to the classic mmo strategy: Fighters are booring but easy. the harder a class the longer it takes to level it and the more interesting it EVENTUALY becomes.
Finally got myself to level 10, switched to rogue, on the path to assassin. Fun, but annoying to try to level. Can't find a place that isn't either full of people, has decent exp/monster spawn, or doesn't take an eternity to kill something.
And how do you get access to the range increasing skill? (I forgot the name of it)

buy speed potions or save up for a speed scroll... or befriend an assassin/bandit with haste =3
I levelled myself to thief in one day... not sure how many hours though; 3? could've been 4 for all I know XD
One nice departure from the usual MMO Job class thingy is that they let you go mage at level 8 instead of 10 like the rest of the classes... they could be the first company to realise trying to level with a pure int character is like cleaning your teeth with razors and adjusted things accordingly =o Now if only they'd do that for the other non-warriors -.-
I think I'm gonna restart my char too... I don't have enough luck for some mage eq, and I used some of my other stat and skill points poorly at first =x so I have some free newbie eq for one lucky nubmage if anyone messages DiscoZombie in-game ;P if thansal isn't like lvl 20 yet he gets dibs :>

I'm too torn between Bowman and Theif! I mean, I wanna use those bows and be an awesome hunter, but...Theives get <b>awesome and stylish clothes!</b> How do you compete with that?

How to make lawts of lewt: Kill Monsters. As of right now, I'm outside Pernion, killing axe logs. They drop around 40gp/monster. Also, one of them dropped a battle shield, worth 80K. I'm in the bloody money.

If ya wanna meet me at Lilth Harbor I can show you where it's at... but be warned: Pig Beach is filled with pigs. 20 regular pigs, 20 ribbon pigs, and 1 iron hog to be precise.
I'd say hold off on it until you're level 15ish for Mages/Warriors... 18-20ish for Theives/Bowmen. The latter will find it especially tough, as there aren't any spawn-free sniping platforms.

Right now I'm planning on hunter since that'll allow me to fire more quickly and prevent monsters from coming towards me (saved me many times already)
