Combat does in fact help with skills, although you have to be careful.
Playing fade in combat will help you learn to get better at blinking, retreating, swiping etc, and timing.
However, you must be careful not to get used to having regen, carapace, celerity, regen etc because you will become overconfident in NS mode, and end up losing 50 res.

Practice at _ns maps, I started in version 2.0, and I loved it, be sure to play with people of the same country so you don't have a hard time communicating. Be there for the team, do as ordered.

Combat is overall, good for practice.
