Prevents mass use of imports to circumvent release dates. And no, not all 90's handhelds have been regionfree. Take the PSP now for instance.

However, with the advent of internet shopping, its become pointless.
i.e. the box set of James Bond Collection or the entire Star Trek TNG copies from China, bought by my dad when he went there for work.

The main problem people importing a DS is that it will be of course, American.
American power point in Australia = weee.
RUMOUR has it that you can plug a GBA SP charger into a DS. But I'm unsure if you could plug an Aussie SP charger into a American DS... it might explode.
Think I'll play it safe and buy a step-down convertor.

The DS is supposed to come with a charger, but if it's like the SP's, I've got no idea.

Anyways, enough of my sexy derailment of this topic. Lets get back to the DS...
I'm pretty sure you can get a converter for the plug. I'm not too worried about that.
and yah, just use a step downcoverter, they are like $30. And that way you don't blowup the DS (unless the DS has the converter built in like laptops)
