Half-life 2
<div class="IPBDescription">...and The Lack of Threads</div> Recently, in the past, a lot of long hyped games (Tribes 2, for example), when announced gold, had countless "omg - it's going to rawk!11one" threads. ...Now I know these aren't the official Valve forums or anything, but still...
I notice a certain lack of these kind of threads concerning Half-Life 2...
Where are all the hyped comments saying, "When I get my copy, I'm going to use the Grav gun to build a bunker.."
Or "I'm going to jump so high with the Buggy..."
Or even, "This one time... at band camp-"
Okay. So scratch the last one.
But seriously, people - WHERE IS THE LOVE?! I am NOT feeling the love! Lets spread some Half-Life 2 love around these forums!
Let me start by asking, What will you do when you first get your copy of HL2? (Besides the obvious, "I r gunna ply teh singl-plier").
Me? I'm going to cruise around in the buggy! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Or even construct a little base out of materials... and lure the enemy into my line of fire... ala Starship Troopers.
Thanks for your time,

Well, maybe I'll do it before I get the game, but still.
Fortuneately this time we get a nice little controversy over weather its better to be an idiot and not have a hard copy by buying over steam, or weather its better to be extreamly awesome by getting the collectors addition and acctually having the best game ever made in your hands <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I apologise for the fact that this thread is now ruined to <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Are you surprised?
But those threads were about HL2's hardware.. or the Source Engine.. and about Steam.
We don't have any hype threads.. or any fanboy threads... not even a single "When I get my copy I'm going to..." threads... and considering we've been waiting for this game for god-knows-how-long, I think we deserve a fun, adventrerous thread such as this one. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Standard box for me. Let's see... I'll carefully open it using extremely sharp scissors. Use white gloves to carefully take out the contents of the CD. Change my MSN name to "offline for the next few weeks... playing HL2!". Continue bugging my parents to get me a new computer. Laugh at my friends who don't have HL2 yet.
Just think about the new Physics engine and the countless possibilities!
[Strongbad Voice]Now thats what I'm talking about![/Strongbad Voice]
RAM sure PC 3200 512x2 should work well.
Depending on the 9800 you would want it will be either $190 (256 MB) or $130 (128 MB).
Ram for 512x2-1024 PC 3200 around $100-150 depending on what you want. I prefer Kingston cause it runs like a beauty.
But of course its your money and a X800 is good but not really required. Just make sure your CPU is good :/
Why would you want to play HL2 quick?
I'm going to take my time and savour it's flavour..
...I'm the guy that kept Barney alive as long as possible in HL1. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

yes, but did you kill him once you hit a point he couldnt follow to steal his ammo?
Then, once completed, I will return to the realm of reality, which I never really left, and become active in Gangwars again. Meanwhile, I will continue to play HL2 to expand my Source knowledge.
In HL2 itself, I will do rediculous things with the Grav gun. I will use everything possible in the environment against my enemies, including, yes, creating bunkers. I will do many strategic things with manipulator forts and Ant Lions.
I will obviously try and "tap dat azz" as far as Alyx goes. And when that doesn't succeed, I'll tap her faithful robot "Dog" instead. I believe he will be more open to my pimpish styles and hot moves.
I'm looking forward to the story. Graphics just help it along. Same thing with Halo 2 and Stalker. I suppose I'm the only person that's really that way (which is why the syphon filter games were pretty cool, they had the good action with the B movie voice acting...sort of like Resident Evil...but that's not really related to HL2 in any way).
Everyone's stated it already though: we talked about it last September. If we want to remember what we wanted to do when it looked so innovative (and it still is, it just lost its flair) we'd go back and dig up one of those threads.
Sooooooo many possibilities.

Ya know what? I'm suprised that theres no HL2 Racing MODs planned yet. o_o
Dune Racers! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I figure as long as I'm upgrading I might as well go all out. I'm doing pretty well for cash at the moment, so I'm just basically going to upgrade my entire computer to last another couple of years.
So I'm all set. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz with Hyperthreading (Overclocked to 3.1GHZ).
9800 (128mb)
Dual Channel DDR Corsair twin sticks of 512mb RAM
Soundblaster Audigy 2
+Latest Drivers for everything.
When HL2 comes out, I'm going to overclock my Video card a smidge and get those famous Omega Drivers for my Radeon. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Because you asked;
When I get my copy, I'm gonna <i>tie it to the back of my car on a 8 foot long string, and drive down the highway at 95 miles an hour, after I write in soap on my windows, <span style='color:white'>"<3 those <b>L337 deadlines</b> Valve."</i></span>
Because:
A.) My computer runs about as fast as my soulless and incredibly devious at screwing me 300 pound neighbor.
B.) I'll have enough money to upgrade computers the day my mom decides to stop working for non-profit organizations. I.E. She'll stop loving PBS when the sun goes supernova.
C.) I don't want to lose even more hours of my day burning through the mod scene. Especially the mod scene in its infant stages.
There happy? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Seriously, I don't see why we should all be supremely excited about it. Many other chumps like myself, will not being playing it due to computer constraints anyway. I don't actually hate this game. But I won't be one of those people buying it come day one either.

Don't hate da' game.. hate da' playa'!
P.S. I aploagize in advance... =/
It's not like Valve
-worked very hard to get HL2 working nicely on nvidia cards (ATI's were working just fine IIRC)
-had two worldwide hardware/software surveys
-designed the game so people with lower end pcs could run it by turning shiz off. I can run CS:S on a 1GHz, 256meg ram, 800x600 with an onboard Geforce4 mx at ~50 fps (My monitor caps at 60 btw).

Hell I can't blame them for not making the game work for me. It MAKES SENSE to make it a high end game it has to run on high end machines. But that feeling of being screwed in the end, cause you know your money has to go elsewhere right now. Yeah, that left out feeling, it just... it just sucks. And it just gets 10x worse when you want to blame Valve but you can't because you know they are doing the right thing.

Tell me where you found x2 512 Kingston sticks of PC3200 for 100-150 bucks, and I will give you a sweet old pat on the back.
More like 200-250. Mine is dual channel, too.
