Games That Make You Glad You Bought A Gamepad?

As some of you may have read before, I have never owned a console. Ever. Computers only. A number of friends of mine have owned consoles and PC's, and as a result aren't patient enough to get a good game going via LAN when they can set up an n64 for some super smash brothers nostalgia.
I recently tried out the demo for Gish, and once I dug up two semi-old gamepads of mine (1 4-button and 1 6-button), I got them hooked on Gish's versus mode. By now we've all gotten pretty evenly skilled, but like anything it can get repetitious if that's all you have. I'm wondering if there's any other multiplayer games that gamepads are good for. Co-op or vs, splitscreen or not, 2 players to 10 (well, more like 2 to 5...2 gamepads + 2 keyboards + a DDR mat for whoever feels like jumping around to play ), I'm willing to try plenty of stuff--it just has to be multiplayer, because friends=good. You can suggest one that needs buying if you want, but realize I'm much more likely to go for demos and freeware.

And on a side note: Never owned a console? Not even an NES or SNES? Man, you really missed out. Really, I do feel deeply sorry for you, as you can't even comprehend the joy that you missed out on. :(
I can't think of any good gamepad-pc-multiplayer-offline game...

I have that, for the love of me I can't get it set up the way I want it too be. Is there any way to make it so it doesn't crash out of the game when you press the exit key?
Uhh... that has to be the worst idea, ever.

lol yea I jsut got the MK 3 port for PC.
you just cant do the combos with a keyboard, you hit the keys so fast the game doesnt register or something.
Im glad I had a gamepad for the origional GTA games and the GTA London expansion pack.
Doesn't that destroy the whole purpose of porting Halo?
Its split screen, versus, and you can play via LAN, two players per computer.

I'm reasonably sure that theres a version for PC.

Project 64
ePSXe
Silent Hill 4
Pro Evolution 3 (and soon: 4)
And any driving games.
I use it for all my oldschool gaming PC needs. Plus it acts like a dex drive and works normally with standard joystick feedback.

edit this post and put in only your list of gamepad-intended games that are multiplayer, please, for the reasons in the 1st post of the thread.
The gamepad itself was about $5 a few years ago, a PiranhaPad PC
