New Problem ;(

Well Ive been playing ns for quite some time and all of a sudden NS lags for me Terribly when theres alot on the screen im getting like 1000 ping ;o (100 at idle). I thought it would just be my connection (cable) but i tried CS and im getting regular ping. between 20-70.

I tried Reinstalling, rebooting.

my computer specs are
amd 3400+
nvidia 5950 250mb
1 gig of ram

Any Help would be greatly apreciated

It's not your system, it is more than capable enough. There are a few choices:

It could be a router/firewall/network congestion problem that coincidentally only happened during NS. This is somewhat unlikely.

It could be your network drivers. This is also unlikely, although easily fixed.

It could be that you joined a bad server. If you rebooted, then you probably joined a different server, so this is also unlikely.

It could be viruses/spyware. They sometimes cause network slowdown.

You said you reinstalled. Did you reinstall just NS or all of Steam?

Did anyone else on the server lag or was it just you? How did you know your ping? Did you use net_graph or the scoreboard? net_graph is somewhat unreliable.

Well I just reinstalled NS not the whole steam.
The Thing that makes me wonder is why only NS is lagging
I made Sure i joined the fastest server. and i was the only one getting 800+ ping on the server. Seems to mostly happen on the seige maps.

Just had to happen with the one game I enjoy most ;l

PS I run Ad-aware and Spy bot quite often also run virus scanners.

dont forget to update patches for things like adaware. (just a suggestion) also try ctrl+alt+del to see what programs are running

It's lagging when there's player near by,
CS plays as normal,
Graphics card is well above NS's requirements.

= Rate issue?

Search forums for rate settings. Fiddle with "rate" "cl_updaterate" and the other one, whose name escapes me. I won't say exact figgures, as there seems to be much discrepency between opinions.
For a 512 cable, "rate 2500" I'd recommend. "cl_updaterate" beween 5 and 20, as an approximation.

of course, im at a university with an dual oc3's, so they might be a little high...
