Starship Troopers

Didn't find any topic so I opened one
Hi guys. I know that Starship Troopers isn't very similar to NS but I'm a big fan of it! Post your comments about the movies or the game wich is gonna be realeased next year.

I personally think that the first movie was the best, because it's story was perfect and the actors were great (most of them made career with it like Anthony Ruviviar, who's playing "Carlos Nieto" in the TV Show "Third Watch").

The 2nd movie sucked tough! It's story was boring, the actors unknown and you couldn't get used to them. And last but not least it was made with less equipment. I also didn't like the weapons (they were some sorta laser guns or something like that and their sound was like ****). I really missed the Morita from the 1st movie.

I'm proud that my Squad (I'm the leader) is the only one in the (german) NS community (according to my researches) with the name "Roughnecks" =)

hehe I actually read the original novel by Robert A. Heinlein. I realized that really only some things (and not all the stuff in the book) in it were copyed to the movie. It's really sad I know

Seen the trailer from the ST game? It's really cool.

I wish someone would make an ST movie that is faithful to the book.
You know, less action and more dialogues.
  • Lt.RealnessLt.Realness Join Date: 2004-03-17 Member: 27379Members
@Clashen : ya I watched it but it has to be fixed! The bugs are moving like robots and some other things have to be fixed like the one guy is killing that fat controller bug with JUST 9 shoots of a shotgun.

@CrystalSnake : yap you're right. Hopefully the 3rd part of the movies'll become good :/

a movie faithful to the book would suck. (naimly as inner monolouges are booring)

I actualy like SSTroopers (the first moovie) for what it is, a brainless action flick.

I just wish they had kept the friken power armour.

Jeah, they dropped those because they went overbudget. It was either power armor or cool looking bugs. Offcourse they chose for the bugs.

SST was a horrible movie. You'd have to have been injecting some really bad heroin straight into your eyes if you think the story was good and that the actors didn't act like they'd just been giving $20 to come in and shoot some scenes before they hit the beach.

While the Sequal is definatly low buget (the effects show that, TV class) I thought the story was quite good. Sure the acting still sucked, but the story was better.

Hate the movie with a passion and never got hold of the book, but I still think it would make a great fps. The trailer looked promising, at least.

Since you're new to English, I'll go ahead and tell you that:

    1) A "sequal" is a bastardization (wrong spelling) of a sequel. There was a sequel to the SST movie.

    2) EEK's comment was a comment on the SST movie. He said that he did not enjoy the acting of the actors in the movie.

If you're looking at SST for story or acting abilities.....you're watching the wrong movie. That's like saying The Shawshank Redemption is a bad movie cause the comedy in it sucks or something; it's just not that kind of movie. Appreciate it for the action, and criticize that, but don't criticize the movie for lacking something that most likely the director was never aiming for.

    Starship troopers...

Good book (minus the obligatory Heinlein RANTZ0R in the middle about child psychologists - i mean, come on, there was no need for that to be in the book at all)

Good film. Verhoeven took the principles, and managed to say something new with them, without loosing the core of the original (even if i did want to see the proper Powered armour)

Sequel? - me fears the sequel.

CGI Series... ermm... I couldn't watch it. not cos of plot, but because the animation was utterly dire. what with the characters folding over like paper when they ran...

Manga Series/film - Me Wanty. but its gold dust... maybe i should PM infinitum. he may know where to get it.

    and heres the doozy:

    Tabletop Battlegame -
Starship Troopers by Mongoose Publishing. Multiposable plastics (for both MI and Bugs) based on the appearence of the CGI series primarily. promises armies for Skinnies, and maybe other alien races.

Yeah, because insects that can throw chunks of rocks toward the Earth and hit it dead on target while human has to jump to hyperspace to reach their planets make so much sense.

I dunno about anyone else, but the action is the main reason I hate this movie. It's choppy and hideously boring. Six people standing in a circle around a dancing bug (albeit a very pretty dancing bug) shooting it as it slowly dies never struck me as fast paced blood pumping action.

I enjoyed the orginal for what it was, action and quite brainless for the most part. Albiet it did have some quite good looking actors.

The sequel wasn't the greatest on the budget theme, as the special effects really were not very good.

CGI, I did enjoy some of the more thought provoking episodes, although the animations were kind of stiff at times. I did enjoy the alien animations, those I thought were very good.

The book, well I read through most of it, I do say it was very good, but yes the child psychologist part could have been left out and nothing would have been missed.

Never seen nor heard of the manga.

lol yea good first movie, not as good as the book and as for the second movie

*vomits all over self thinking about it

They didnt even have enough money for squibs or to fire blanks or anything from their guns. It was like they were shining a blue LED light on and off.

the RTS for starship troopers way back was decent but it had some "bugs" (yea yea silly joke) in it.

The new one looks like it has potential.

    On a side note.

Considering that you can have 200 (tweakable to 260) player servers in HL2.

I could see a cool SST mod lol.
