Question About Cs:source

<div class="IPBDescription">regarding weapon names & changing them</div> I remember newer versions of Counter-Strike had the fake weapon names (Defender? Night Hawk? What...the heck??) but you could take one of the .txt files with "real" names from older versions and copy it in the right place to get the real names again.

Can something similar be done with CS:Source? Have people made these .txt's already (since you can't exactly copy it from the older version anymore, and I can't be bothered to make one myself)? I'm sick of hearing friends tell me <i>I'm</i> the one who's using the wrong names whenever we talk about CS, CS:CZ, and CS:Source.

    make a "resource" folder (may have to make one) in your cstrike folder and run your game. File name must stay "cstrike_english.txt"

    then I guess edit the file

    Hmm...well, it's encouraging to know it's at least possible instead of being hard-coded in.
    Have any sites of rabid old-school CS fans already put up .txt's that have been fully redone in this manner?

    nope but I got given the url where he found this... but :s didn't explain if clearerly nor did it have the files

    yeah there should be some soon, once HL2 is out and CS:S gets into full swing people will start customising etc asap!

    if you cba with reading the names all the time just get sum weapon binds

    Because of the name change from retail CS for a long while people called guns by their number codes. For example the AK47 was called the 4-1, the colt was the 4-2, the deagle was the 1-3, ect. They messed this all up by changing the numbers for 1.6 though.

    Once the mod went commercial, the game was using commercial brands and products within the title. They changed them to avoid any issues with legal folks.
