John Peel, aged 65, and quoted as "the most important person in British music since the birth of rock 'n' roll" died Tuesday the 27th of October 2004. His influences on the British (and world) music industries as radio and television broadcaster, DJ and talent scout for some of the biggest and the smallest bands in history will not go unremembered.

I opened this thread both to announce this loss and to commemorate this monumental figure of British culture. Below are some of the bands he brought to the attention of the British people for the first time, many of whom credit him for their resulting success in the music industry.
