Neon Genesis

can someone explain to me the gist
Hey Hey.
I rented some dvd's from blockbuster and they only carried some episodes of the series, but I got the one's entitled "death and rebirth" and "end of evangelion."
Alot of times I asked myself what in the bleeping world was going on. I reckon that the rebirth of mankind is but a dream and that dream is your reality? Well, what really happened at the end?

But see the actual series first.
At least the mechas are way cool.
OMG Spoiler!!!1111
There was nothing apart from some legs coming out the hand.
Rei coming from the Eva's was slightly more unsettling.
will it explain what the hell went on with 25 and 26... cuz i'm still confused... maybe i'll rent and watch them, just because i need a damn anime fix till the second season of hellsing is ready

*SPOILER*
Episodes 25 and 26 explain Instrumentality. Instrumentality is what SEELE wants to do, which is forcing the mind/soul of every human into essentially one entity, to fill in the void of emptyness that people feel. It never really explains how Instrumentality would happen in the series, the last actual real world scene was Shinji killing Kouru. The 26 episode series is a sort of self-help guide to happiness. Shinji found the only way that people wouldn't hate him is if he began to love himself. Until then his perception of other people perceiving him would always be that of hate. Don't ask for spoilers on the movie, I haven't seen it in a while, and didn't pick it up when I bought my box set around two weeks ago.
That was cool.
Then it all went very very very crap.
If you want something along the same philosophical level I highly recommend RahXephon.
Not only do I care about the characters far far far more than I did in Evangelion, but they pulled some very nasty and sad crap around the 18th ep mark ;(
Though I did find their explanation of it all nearing the later episodes to be.. a little rushed.. or they were trying to give reason to a story they couldn't really explain.
But trust me, cool characters, cool mecha, cool plot development and the rest.
RahXephon > Evangelion
Using Unit 01 as part of The Instrumentality Project....
I could write pages on it... but yeah. Long story short. Unit 01 was needed as part of Instrumentality.. I think...
This is why I hate Evangelion, you can't draw any definate conclusions from it. And that is never ever a good point.
I completely agree with Inf on the first point. The sheer amount of merchandising Gainax did while it was still on tv didn't help, nor does the fact that they're STILL churning out 'new' products...
I haven't seen too much of Rah yet, but I would have to agree. It's much more palatable. Also, if you want a more military-esque feel, you may like Gasaraki.
No more bad guys
But unit 01 is needed for instrumentality
So NERV still exists
is that it? they made 2 movies outta that... jesus

I was under the impression that Gendo wanted to initiate Third Impact, not Instrumentality. The only way he could accomplish his version of Third Impact, however, was with Rei merging with Lillith, and ultimately it was up to Shinji as to wether or not he would destroy humanity or allow them to ascend into heaven. I might be wrong, like I said I need to see the movie.

Welll.. yes. Pretty much.
Oh yeah... the way the movies work out are a pain in the arse as well.
Death & Rebith... well the first half is a summary of the main points of the TV series, the second half is the FIRST half of End of Evangelion.
End of Evangelion contains the SECOND HALF of Death & Rebirth and then it finishes with it's own unique flair...
If you want an incredibly well created Gainax series. I cannot recommend Nadia The Secret of Blue Water ENOUGH. It's one of my Top 5 series of all time. Easily.
IE The best bit.
