    Finally, if you ask me. They haven't made a good game since Starcraft. And WoW is just their way to get the idiot crowd into the MMO scene- man, I hate Blizzard.

    They didn't steal the beta. The beta is still happening. This is just a final "stress test" before the beta. Stop whining, start reading.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
    <u>FilePlanet Subscribers</u> gain access to the Open Beta <b>one week early</b>
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> Subscribe now for an opportunity to join the World of Warcraft® Final Stress Test and play the game <b>one week before the <u><i>public!</u></i></b>
    In the Final Stress Test, you’ll have <b>one week <u>before</u> the Open Beta Test starts</b> to play the game, create characters and go on the most amazing adventures! And the best part is that your characters from the Final Stress Test will be transferred over to the Open Beta Test!<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Yes, I realize that only allowing such a small number of people to play it isn't really a stress test, but one can only assume Fileplanet worked out a deal with Blizzard to do this. Hosting a 3-4 gig file that lots of people want isn't exactly easy. How do they make up for the money spent on servers and bandwidth for this large file? By striking a deal with Blizzard for a special period of time that only subscribers can join in. If people want in early, they will subscribe. If they subscribe, Fileplanet makes some money to make up for the fact that its still a really big file that lots of people want at.

    And still, the rest of the world cries in agony.

    It's pretty obvious to see that Blizzard and Gamespy have struck a deal.

    And yes, it's quite easy for us young folks of this board to say "OMG JUST GET JOB FOR SEVEN HOURS N QUIT LOLOLOL," but you're missing the point. Imagine: the person wanting to play has no credit card. Imagine: the person has no extra money to waste on frivolous subscriptions.
    There's no other way to describe it - a fileplanet subscription is a massive waste and an appalling idea that panders to rich kids and fanboys. I can't believe people pay for that (especially since bandwidth really is exponentially becoming less of an issue and cheaper. In five years, bandwidth costs will be so miniscule that this "server upkeep" reasoning will disappear.)

    It is interesting to think of how MMORPG publishers will steal your money this time.

    NOW, WE DONCE

    EDIT: And I agree that many people will have a slim to zero chance of actually scoring an open beta spot. After all, what is the purpose of a "stress test"? To stress the servers and the game to see how much they can handle. How do you do this pray tell? You put as many people as you can onto them.

    Anyone else see the problem here? You dump a heap of stress testers onto the servers, guareentee them an open beta spot...now where are the people who are signing up for the open beta going to play? Given that Blizzard will have intentionally overloaded their servers during the stress test, there are going to be virtually no spots left for open beta people who didn't participate in the stress test.

    That is, of course, unless Blizzard has a heap of other servers that they'll be using specifically for the open beta. Which they won't be stress-testing. Ahem.

    I gotta say it.

    I find all this griping amusing.

    gasp shudder, they are charging people for a service.

    So, who is familiar with Blizzard's track record with releases?
    ehehehe, BNet Dies FAST.

    so this time they split the load off of their sholders some, and FP decided that something this big would only be shared with those poeple who pay them (as it put a MASSIVE strain on their servers).

    As for bandwidth beeing virtualy free some time soon? News to me. Combine that with Bandwidth is not the primary thing you pay for in MMOs, it is server maintenance, the codders wages (as they are still working on it), and what the market will take.

    If you don't like the system, don't play.

    As much as I like getting free stuff, playing games for free, etc., everyone must realize that our world runs on money. Society believe it or not revolves around the good ol' dollar, euro, what have you. If Blizzard and FP wants to give out the service for free, more power to them, but it really is up to them to do what they want. The pro to charging for this Beta Stress Test and if they do charge for Open Beta is that they'll only get people who are very much into the game, loyal to the game, really wants to help the game, and a lot less griefers who try to ruin the game for others. The con would of course be a much smaller playerbase, but I'd bet enough people would pay for Open Beta if Blizzard chooses that route since WoW is such a big deal to a lot of people.

    I have a fileplanet subscription, and enjoy it. I originally thought it would be ridiculous to pay for something to frivolous. But now I realise it's really nice to be able to download just about any game realted file at 400kbps instantly. 7$ a month is nothing really.
