<div class="IPBDescription">i really wanna know.</div> what did you DO growing up? i mean, this is assuming that you're at least 17 or so, so you could grow up with the NES, Master System, Genesis, SNES, Sega CD, and onward.
what did you DO as a kid? if you didn't play Sonic, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Super Marios + SM World, Super Metroid, Mega Mans + Mega Man X's, Chrono Trigger, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter..
what DID you do?? and if your answer is "nothing" then do you have any inkling of how deprived your childhood was? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Like Tycho, I read a *lot* of books growing up. One year of grade school our English teacher asked us to keep a record of all the books we read, and my friend and I tied for most books read in the class.
I also lived on a street with about 15 kids aged ±4 years from me, which made for some awesome games of block-wide tag, Cops & Robbers, Ghost in the Graveyard, and more.

Became very good friends with people who did own those systems, and enjoyed every moment of multiplayer until PC's became respectable gaming machines.
Other than that...my family probably spent as much money on legos as other families did on nintendo products. I intend on doing the same for my future children until they're at an age where schoolwork requires computers.
[edit]Wow, my answers are similar to other peoples....I almost forgot that in 3rd grade I read every single Hardy Boys book my school library had.
That, and I begged to get a SNES/GBP/GBC.
I also played text games on my 386 when I was really young, like 5 or so.
Oh yea, I read every Goosebumbs book. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The one and only!
understanding the universe has always been my goal, and most console games have nothing to offer in that regard. computers offer the understanding of how they work, you can look at the files, you can tweak or hack them and learn. consoles give you the game and nothing but the game, and i just dont want to spend time progressing those characters lives.... Well, i did spend an awful lot of time with Double Dragon2, and TMNT 1, those times were long past.
loved to climb trees, and what i guess what would nowadays be called LARPing, back then i just called it PLAYING WITH STICKS. (ive always pretended to be poor, as i see it as virtuous)
Oh yah, I use to play a lot of "educational" games. Thats what kept me enterteined until I was 8 and got Warcraft II.
I didn't discover computer games untill I was about 11 and that was a mega drive one of my friends had and it didn't interest me for a while.
A shocking fact - the first time I played Half-Life on (the same) friends computer I hated it ^_^
Oh, and Lego. I used to love lego.
Not to mention *gasp* actualy going outside and enjoying the fresh air while doing fun normal things (bike, soccer, etc), instead of being cooped up in front of a screen all day long.
/me beats some modern teenangsters™ with his cane

I done all of these things. I just came to realize console gaming sucks in this modern day and age. Like disco funk.
<3 Consoles.
When i was about 4-5 years old i had a Spectrum 128k +2 (Yes, i do remember playing it a lot), then came the NES, Gameboy, SNES, N64, Megadrive, Dreamcast, PSX, GC, Xbox, PS2 and a multitude of consoles that i couldn't live without. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
PC Games normally have far more depth and the communities that build up around them are amazing, some console games are good but too many of them are dumbed down, empty experiences and playing a FPS on a controller just makes me want to cry!
Hmm, heres a thought, should I buy Halo on the PC? If I get more positive than negative then I'll buy it today on break (at work *sigh*) but there has to be more than just a couple of responses or it'll be a crap sample and I'll save my money.

Halo PC is the buggiest POS port to ever defile the shelves of game stores everywhere. Take the boredom, bland mediocrity of Halo then severely drop the framerates and graphical quality and you get Halo PC. Avoid.
when speaking of RTS/FPS I mean eh.
There are just SOME types of games that just totally suck **** when on a console (FPS, to a lesser extent, RTS)
i did read a lot too <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Why do people read when it makes them so sad? <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
NOTE: Reading is the tool of the devil.
