<div class="IPBDescription">Share in the creative process!</div> Since the HL2 SDK will be coming out near release, and Source will prove to be an amazing, and hopefully easy to mod engine, lets start cranking out ideas on mods. The simpler the better! I'll start off.
Players play inside a large arena, with many beams, ropes, chains, and objects overhead. Players all get a grappling hook and a lance.(lightsaber, for all intents and purposes) You can only move at a decent speed when swinging in the air, and when you hit the ground, your hook has to recharge for a few seconds. You can, however, disconnect and fire new hooks in midair, though only a certain number of those can be used before you have to touch ground and charge again.
Grappling lines can be cut with the lance, and players can be knocked out with the lance if hit X number of times. (Possible classes, speed V. armor/ size)
Play could be either deathmatch, knocking out as many opponents as you could, or AIR SOCCER! The ball would dangle from the ceiling, would not be affected by the lance, and when picked up, would block use of both the lance or grappling hook. The hook could still stay connected, but could not be dis/reconnected.
Players would have to pass the ball to their teammates, or, throw the ball so that it struck a surface, dangling below whatever it latched on to.
The game would be a ballistic arial ballet, with players running screens for their runners who would leap-frog with the ball down the court.

During the 2nd biggest LANparty I have attended, people (players and spectators) had more cheering, teamwork, and overall fun than any other game played--and we're talking about some common LAN staples like quake3, Jedi Outcast, and Counter-Strike (I successfully got 2 other guys to play NS with bots, but couldn't convince the rest).
Mod is particularly well-known for being the one and only good excuse to use that bikini player skin you downloaded. You perverted little teenangster you.

A MMORPG Mod, it would be fantasy and have items are everything. Your 'character' would be locked away on some file on your HDD and a minimal copy on the server, when you join a server it checks to make sure you didn't tamper with it. Tampering = BANT.

Well the concept may seem similar to Blitzball in theory but... don't worry Marik it isn't. I've seen it before and when you actually play Blitzball in the game, all encounters are done RPG style. This would be real time, so they can't be compared.

Tricky to implement because each server would be its own "world" per se, unless you could come up with a way of linking them all together... now that... it would pwn. Pwn greater than any pwn has pwned before. I can already see the nublars standing around throwing barrels at each other for hours on end...

Make a game better than SC:ghost, get sued by blizzard.
That being said I'd like to see some classic style RTS games. If UT2004 showed us anything, its that the new 3D engines work well with RTS style games, albeit the massive ammount of work for a modteam undertaking such a progect.
2. Physics war, loads and loads of stuff. Just stuff you can pick up, no weapons. Kill echother using only physics.
3. Defenders Maximum, useing something like the comms view you have a area with doors walls and whatever. You place turrets and stuff and other people use/build them, ground soldiers blockade what areas they can with plants, stones, litter. All this to stop a attacking force.
4. Starship troopers mod unless the real game sucks (trailer had terrible blood).
5. Star Wars jedi fighting , mod the manipulator to be their hand picking up sabers and everithing els.
At which point KFS ponders quitting his job at Raven to join in on this project and do a spiritual successor to BG&E.

Heres a unique mod idea for HL2.
Cell Wars
What makes this unique is probably how out of it the idea is. There are 4 teams. The first are the good guys, the human immune cells! Defend vital parts of the body as you swim through the 3 dimensional waters of the human body! The second team are the bad guys, good old viruses! Invade and destroy the pesky human cells so that your progeny can multiply! The third team are ordinary bacteria, breed multiply and expand in a vast medium and attack your enemies! The fourth and final team are the nanites, hardy, slow spawning but powerful, go forth and destroy those that would stand in your way!
What makes the mod unique amongst most is that it would be done completely in 3d equilibrium. Forces can be hidden behind natural phenomena such as blood vessels or other organs and called for, defenses will have to be thought of both 2 dimensionally and three dimensionally. Moving around as a cell, it should be hard to convince yourself if your swimming or flying.
Gameplay modes:
When it's human cells vs virus, the human cells have to protect a vital organ (liver, heart, etc) from invading virus cells. If the human cells can hold out until immunity is reached (say 15 minutes for arguments sake) the virus loses. If the virii can "infect" greater then 50% of the target, the virii win.
When human cells take on bacteria, it's different. Essentially, the human cells have to destroy the bacterial "culture" whilst the bacteria must hold off until "critical mass" is achieved. The harder the human cells hit the culture, the longer it will take to reach critical mass.
When it is human cells vs Nanites, the weak human cells have to team up and destroy the powerful nanites. In addition to protecting a vital organ, the human cells must also destroy the nanite "factory" to win, whilst the nanites must destroy the vital organ.
When it's virii vs bacteria, the bacteria are on the defensive. The virii have to infect a predetermined number of bacteria, whilst the bacteria must do their utmost to stop this from happening until the colony can evolve a resistance against the virii.
When it's bacteria vs nanites, only mutual annihilation will do. Bacteria must destroy nanite factory, whilst nanites must destroy the bacterial colony.
Virii vs Nanites would be absurd in my opinon, I just cant see a piece of RNA with a protein coating taking on a metallic monster with claws.
Anyway, for the defending team, resources come in at a set rate. Resources are used to spawn and develop the cell so that it can upgrade to become faster, deadlier, more infectious (if your a disease <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->), more potent, etc. The attacking team will need to dredge up resources from nutrient "hotspots" (nanites would suck iron from the blood stream). In the case of bacteria, their base would be on a hotspot, while secondary colonies could be setup on others (secondary colonies do not function like a main colony, but serve as a backup in case the main colony is destroyed). Virii would infect an individual cell, allowing the entire team to spawn after a brief gestation period, one virus remains behind while the entire team kamikazes the defenses. If the team fails, the one virus can infect another free floating cell to renew the virii assualt on the vital organ.

Story
The year is 2005, billions of light years away from earth on a planet called “insert name” which resembles earth with it’s Oxygen and Waterier features, but there is nothing beautiful of this planet. Engulfed with a species that is not human.

Ideas for mod
· No human based characters
· All characters are alien like
· 3 team mode, 3 teams at a time playing on a server (option of standard 1 team vs 1 team)
· Based on an alien planet (maps will be various places of the planet)
General Info
Each team will have different “aliens” there are so many “1” and so many “2”, a player would pick which “alien” he/she wanted to be, unless it was already taken (example of the GUI would be Americas Army).
The maps will interact with what the players do, for example
· if a player blows up a “support” for a roof – the roof will collapse, (Obviously supports for roofs would not be in this mod, mod relativity – was intended for reference),
· parts of the maps will be “unstable” when a player walks on the unstable part it could collapse,
· if a player shoots at another one, misses and it hits a cliff face (for example) bits will fly off the cliff, randomly, and hit the player – if the player is unlucky
Planet Info
Will be full of tunnels – where they “live”
Rocky landscapes
Water features
Weapons
Melee
Parts of the aliens body; slashing, charging, etc. Which all the aliens will have at least one.
Tail
Claws – both feet and hands
Head
Hand Held
Not sure how to implement “alien like” weapons
Other (maybe? Dunno, was in a dream of mine when I was… an alien)
Some life-forms maybe able to charge a sort of energy ball in their hands then throw it – could be a weapon as such or used to reveal hidden aliens, these balls are unstable so you cannot charge them and hold them for a prolonged time otherwise they would explode. These wouldn’t be weapons as such but like wizards – in the sense that they can create energy.
· Some aliens will be able to leap for jumping around. I’m not totally sure how I would want this implemented – maybe have it set at a certain power, distance to jump.
· Worm type aliens will be able to go underground – implementation of this would be; maybe somehow to enable “noclip” mode, so the ground would most probably have to be some kind of entity – the way they enter the ground would make a hole but instantly filled as they move the “dirt” in front of them to behind, same when they exit for ground…. Who knows
Types of “Aliens”
Water based aliens – ONLY water (may cause some bad things [can’t think of the word])
Rather large in size – snake like
Water and land based aliens
Something like a crocodile – maybe faster
Land based aliens – cannot swim, but can wade

But because no one was interested in this mod, I have went and joined a mod set in the future 2010, we are in the "design" process as we scraped our original idea of a falklands mod. The website is getting made, so I can't really show you anything but the <a href='http://www.hl2database.com/forum/index.php' target='_blank'>forums</a>?
personally i thoght about how you can expand NS, with stuff like variable gravity, you can have maps set in entire space hulks, and have marines in space suits have to establish a base and hack into the ships nanite network to allow them to start building a base <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
variable athmosphear would be kinda cool too, lke certain areas are no-go unless you have protective suits, (ha, moblity armor(kinda like a sealed lvl3 armor), etc), or you can even have parts of the ship exposed to space even, and you get sucked out if the room isnt depressurised before opening the door to the outside
aliens can have some new classes too... like a psi alien, who uses mental attacks to confuse and disable marines... and some kinda freaky 'infiltrator' alien that looks like a human and can hack into base faclitys to disrubt resources or downgrade technolgy or something
maybe even a third fraction in the game, like.. 'squatters' who're lower tech than marines... maybe even new play modes, like rescueing squatters, or driving them out of ships.
multiple objectives would be cool too... instead of just 'kill the aliens' maybe some tasks you have to acomplish first, like enable power. etc <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Maybe a Stargate TC updated for HL2? Finally fix the bugs and make me drool: if they can do a spot on gate effect with the HL1 engine, i'd be amazed what they can do with the powah of the HL2 code

Its the near future, a nuclear war between the earth powers and Mars in the past has made mars a lifeless hell hole. Squads still patrol to engage what is left of the insane revolutionarys from the past, but they discover something different. The newly designed nukes had an unexpectated and toxic virus contained within, mutating the entire population into a monsterous army, also sporing off other hellionous creatures in its wake. This army now moves on the Earth Federation, and the men at Mars are their last line of defense.
The mod would include extreamly intense near future action. Trench warfare, people. Thousands upon thousands of of mutants and <i>things</i> would charge your position in the trenches, bodys and shell casings piling up on the floor. Once you survived one wave, the screen would fade black, and small white letters would form on the bottom, saying "Day 2" and the screen would fade in, having an alarm go off, you racing from your bunk under the trenches to fight off the beasts again up top, bodys piling up at the trenches edge as you do your best to keep them off you. Survive as long as you can.
It would be kinda like Robotech/Transformers/Shogo (mmmmagic claw). You're in a robot that can transform into a plane or a tank or something (player will get to choose from a variety of different 'classes' + customize their character's robot thing. Big explosions, tons of lasers and missles, that sorta thing.
Some maps will be in the mech, however some will be on foot, ala Shogo. And if its technically possible, I'd really like to make some maps with both in the same map. Have one area of the map where the robots are fighting be the skybox of the map where the people are fighting and, if the engine can handle it, vice versa for the on-foot humans, and you could have a really interesting experience. Or hell, maybe you won't even need that, maybe you can just have a humongous scale difference. That would be cool cause then you could make it so players needed to get out of their mechs from time to time to accomplish a goal of some sort. Dunno if that would happen though...
Maps would be on a war-torn earth, in the vasts of space, and maybe on the surface of other planets. Obviously maps in space would be mech only levels. :P

Each team has about 6 players. One guy in the **** who controls the robot's legs, a couple in the arms to control the arms themselves, 2 guys in the chest to control the weapons systems independant of the arms, and a guy in the head who gives all the orders.
The two robots duke it out.

its sounds good on paper but knowing how everyone plays team games this is what happens:
guy in head : yelling on the mic telling everyone to do ****
guy in legs : running around in circles
guy in arm 1 : having a thumb war with guy in arm 2
guy in arm 2 : having a thumb war with guy in arm 1
guys in control of guns : shooting in spawn to see the cool animations

The soldiers of the rebel faction of City 17 need training in how to properly use both the terrain and (when they become more available) the Gravity and Physics Guns. A simple training program involving VR control of inexpensive robots is the best solution. Get ready to train...
<u><b>Weapons</b> </u>
<b>Gravity Gun </b> : Has limited ammo, but ammo recharges over time.
<b>Physics Gun</b> : This is the gun that picks stuff up with the beam. Can also fire weld points which, when touched together, stick together.
<b>Laser</b> : Can only kill weld points and destroy terrain.
<u><b>Gameplay Synopsis</u></b>
Players use the Physics Gun to set up traps for an enemy and use the Laser to set the traps in motion. The Gravity Gun can be used to lob objects at enemies, but objects can be caught and/or dodged. In-map traps and the map (to some extent) itself are both randomized. A ramp on which you could set up a rolling barrel trap may be in a whole new location when you play the map again.
Modes would include:
Death Match
Team Death Match
Capture the Flag
Assault (Attackers try to capture all zones, Defenders try to hold zones until time limit)
Forts (Each team has a fort but cannot leave it. Points are awarded for kills and fort destruction)
