Searching For A Game

<div class="IPBDescription">yeah</div> I'm lookin gfor a game that has a good "beam" weapon. by beam weapon I mean something that fires a devistating continuous beam, like the lazers from Congo or Akira. The link gun is technically a beam weapon but it's not what I'm looking for, something less ghostbusterish and more like what happened when they cross the streams. The only game I've found thus far is starscape, which had a good beam weapon(as well as those awesome nova bombs before it) but I was hoping for more of the FPS variety.

make your own HL mod and edit the egon damage... while removing all the other weapons.

Best beam I ever saw wasn't FPS; it was the laser weapon from 'cybernator' or as it was known in japan; 'assault suits valken'. Very cool mech platform shooter =3

As for FPSers... uh... my old modified megabeam gauss cannon? ^^;

Not an FPS, and you can't actually control the beam weapons, but Freespace 2 has the greatest fireworks known to man. Or you could just equip dreads/tanks w/ lascannons in Dawn of War... a nifty display.

Mechwarrior 4 (and other mech games) have beam lasers. They're short firing but they're beams.

We all know that Mechwarrior 3 is better than 4 but 4 looks a little nicer.

You could probably mod Quake 3s lightning gun to get a good one.

And let's not forget the best beams of all: self contained, blade like beams on the ends of lightsabers. Those are in just about every game theses days: try something from Lucasarts and more often than not it'll have some.

Yes, the ones in dawn of war were fairly satisfying, I forgot about equipping the predators with those and just causing general havoc.

The particle cannon from c&c was fun, sometimes I would just play against a hard computer to build 8 of those and try and control them all with crazy mouse clicking. I had an idea to play tic tac toe with them but I never got around to doing it, then my cd broke. And then when we played multiplayer games with my firends against computers it was easy to get the super weapons countdowns off the screen.

I might try that free-space two one, I never really liked the mech games. which is weird becuase usually blowing stuff up makes me happy.
