Admins-do They Help Or...

<div class="IPBDescription">are they the death of NS being fun?</div> I have been thinking long and hard about this and I was wondering what other people thought. I just came from a server where the person who owned the server(name and ip below) was being an **** and constantly using his admin abilities to make it so his team won. After arguing long and hard with him I finally left. Then I began to think again about all the admins who were using their admin powers on every game just because they could and no one could do a thing about it. I don't see many admins cheating, thankfully, but there are enough to make me not want to play much any more. I know the NS DEV team or any other people except those who run the server can do much about this, but i just wanted to let people know and see if anyone else has noticed this.

This is exactly(almost) what happened.
Tails is afk in the RR, and it is 2 rines(me and Fallen Angel) vs. 1 alien (Zach Attack). Zach Attack starts complaining...

Cobra: "OMG ITS A SIEGE MAP AND THE DOOR HASN'T EVEN OPENED YET"

*some time later Tails joins*
*we get set up at door and siege the ocs*
Zach Attack: "SEE IM NOT READY"
Cobra: "so?? its 2 aliens, u should be getting a LOT of res"
Tails: "no we shouldn't"
Tails: "1 rt, 2 aliens, 1 res evry 8 sec"
Cobra: "OMG U SHOULD HAVE ALL UR RTS BY NOW"
Zach Attack: "I WAS AFK"
Cobra: " U HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO BUILD RTS"
Tails: "DO U KNOW WHAT AFK IS OR DO I HAVE TO SPELL IT OUT FOR U?"
Cobra: "yes i know what afk means, U STILL HAD PLENTY OF TIMES TO BUILD RTS"
*admin slays me*
Cobra: "OMG"
Tails: "dont be a ****"
Cobra: "i wasnt, u are"
Fallen Angel (been talking to me in team_say comand): "Zach is being a ****"
Tails: "HE WAS AFK"
Cobra: "OMG he wasnt afk when i joined"
Cobra: "and after I joined we built 4 rts, a tf, and a bunch of turrets"
*5 min later the siege room opens*
*we build sieges, ping and......SIEGES DIDNT WORK!!! therefore, we lost*
*next map: ns_yorockets_b5*
we weld ourselves in the rt rooms wiht a cc, ip and all our other structures
Tails uses his admin and removes the walls to one rt room, min later, he removes the other one, then hacks my teammates client, raising his ping to around 600. A little later, we both left (because admin was being an ****)
sry for the long post to read but that is a condensed version with a lot missing
any1 else have an encounter like this?

oh well i do suspect it will happen soon.
No idea about the walls but changing net cvars will screw up someone's ping.
wait... that cant be right... did the ailens have flashlights too? woah, now im really confused...
look, if your there with an abusive admin, copy the server IP to a notepad file labled "dont go here" and just go. the NS forums is not a place where you can launch attacks like this.
and second, if you FEEELLL like you must say something to somebody, look for the server webpage. and post this very same there so tails can crap himself in anger.

Seriously though, being an admin can be a pain in the **** . (I'm an admin on a server) Still though, there's way too much abuse. The group I'm in, AoN, split from OnE/MGN because of admin abuse going on there, so I know what you're talking about.
Bad admins on the other hand can make a game or server an absolute hell. It seems you got an unpleasant case of the latter. Just because admins on one NS server are not fair, regardless, does not mean that admins on all NS servers are not fair. This also does not mean that admins are not needed, NOR does it mean that just because there are unfair admins on one NS server, that all the servers have unfair admins and the mod is in danger because of this.
Oh and I've seen voogru on his server move a door out of the way and the like (cr4zy h5x!!1). And setting the rate to about 10 will cause someone to ping at 600.

I've played a game of hera without any lights. There is a little bit of light, though. It's cool because the marines have the advantage of flash lights, but the disadvantage of being lit up if they want to use them. MT is kind of cheap though. And you really have to know the map, or it's hard to get around.

i agree with you that he was being a jerk, but unfortunatly, thats the benefit of owning your own server, its yours, you can do whatever you want. just dont go to that server. luckily, i think there are far more good admins than bad admins (like me <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

If you are in Europe, check the YO Clan servers, as far as I've seen they are excellent, and the members of the clan are friendly. Theres a nice little community going on there.
Even when they have training/whatever, they TELL everyone first, then allow the current game to finish. Then you are ASKED to leave. They only kick you if you don't.
They seem fair enough and nice enough.
There must be many more similar servers all over the world...
In NS, one bad player can go commander and spoil the round for everyone by jumping in and out if a vote gets started, or take a heavy weapon and throw it off a ledge. One bad alien can go onos and block a critical pathway, or block an onos from retreating. One bad spec can shout out exactly what each team is doing at any time. You get the picture. Admins prevent this general asshattery, not to mention hacks.
However, definitions of abuse can vary. So you find a server that has rules you like and admins that aren't jerks and stick with it. Mr. Gunner obviously has a bone to pick with LM, personally I love it. I'm not saying I'm right or he's wrong (ahem <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->), it's just different perspectives. No one ruleset or group of admins works right for everyone.
Well, unless your question was just a thinly veiled excuse to **** about a server. Then they really help.
