Eidos confirms Austin's studio chief will be moving on.
By John Keefer | Nov. 8, 2004
Rumors have been circulating for awhile now that Ion Storm Austin's studio chief Warren Spector might be leaving, particularly after the departures of mainstays Harvey Smith and Randy Smith in March of this year.
However, today, Eidos confirmed the rumors:
<span style='color:green'>"Eidos announces that Warren Spector has relinquished his role as Studio Director at Ion Storm. Warren has chosen to pursue personal interests outside the company, but he will continue to work for Eidos as an IP consultant. His insight and expertise is highly valued by Eidos, and the company looks forward to continuing its relationship with Warren in his new role." </span>
No other details were available, and we are making an effort to contact Spector to get his comments. In the meantime, stay tuned for more details on Ion's games in development and where their current projects stand. We'll post more information as we get it.

It sure was, but Deus Ex 2 definately did not live up to expectations. Part of the reason was that Harvey Smith took over Spector's position from the first game, so he had less control over how the game turned out. I think Warren Spector is a genius and I look forward to seeing what he comes up with.
Spector leaving Ion Storm doesn't worry me, since wherever he goes great games will take form around him. "personal interests", however, suggests that he's not leaving Ion Storm to make games somewhere else, which <i>does</i> worry me. Hopefully it's temporary.
