Asist me o people with art skills!
I recently changed my desktop to a dragon wallpaper (surprise surprise =3) and I really like it. However, I would like to change it's background to all black, instead of the shades of grey the author used. If anyone who has more mspaint/photoshop skills than I do would help me in finishing it - I've done as much as I can - I would really appreciate it.

The desktop in question: http://xs2.xs.to/pics/04115/wallpaper.PNG

The original can be found at:http://dragonkahn.deviantart.com

    Nice image!

    ~edit~

The PNG I clicked on via your link seems to have a balck background... What's the problem now? You want to invert the colors?

For future reference, a command like select color range (definately in photoshop most likely in the Gimp) plus removing annoying bits with rectangular marqee should be a good way to go about that.

Then just fill selection -> black.

Actually, I find the select color range option to be not as useful when the area you are trying to remove is the same color as the area you are trying to keep. I used the pen tool in this picture to seperate the elements I wanted to keep from the elements I did not, then filled the background with black. That worked for everything except the lens flare, which I used the background eraser on.

The color similarity is why you need the marqee. Selecting one color range works great for most of the image, and you remove the part that it doesn't. Then you repeat with the color range for the other part of the document.

The pen tool is wonderful, and if I wanted to do a professional-quality job (or create something from scratch) that's what I'd use, but for making a wallpaper it's probably not worth the fiddling. Definately more work than 2-3 range selections and 2-3 marqees.
