<div class="IPBDescription">It detects aliens for free!!!</div> Well, does it really exist? I heard you can turn up gamma of your screen and you will see cloaked aliens.
No it doesn't. If there was a way you could turn it up so high to see cloaked things, it would be detrimental to your play (skulks would blend in easily with yellow walls, etc).

HOWEVER, one day I decided to use gl_overbright 1 and lightgamma 1, and could see them moving from across the room. Also Whiteknight had powerstrip(yes it can be used still) and it helped him A LOT so gamma most definitely DOES help your ability to see cloaked skulks.
That may have changed in the last few months(gg Disney) but when I played NS on the 19th of May it still worked.

Unless of course you have a crappy montor, or you are in a dark area, but my monotor is nice and bright so yeah.
All I know is this weather or not it is in my head it DID work, and not just for me but for someone that I live with, and a few clanmates, so even <span style='color:red'> <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>IF</span></span> it is just psychogical, it still made me(the permanub) earn hackusations on pubs. SOOO in conclustion, whatever brings it on, I believe it helps a lot.

While the gamma on your screen may not assist in seeing cloaked aliens, it's my experience that the ambient light level does. A cloaked alien is fairly easy to spot in a bright room, yet nearly impossible to see in a dark room.

I play the game for fun, fun to me is killing aliens. If I were playing the game for atmosphere I'd have my lightgamma set to 8 with my graphics cranked right up. XD

Actully i just tested low/high video settings, i couldn't see cloaked SCs in MS with any of them. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> thx for Lightgamma fix Forlorn.
No, that's just plain wrong. It just makes stuff brighter, it does not make stuff black... which won't help you see cloaked stuff. It's locked at 2 or 2.5 or above anyway
