holy crap no need to pay?
i just read this on the blizzard site

Collector's Edition 10-Day Guest Pass

Players who will be accessing the game through the 10-day pass will create their account for that exactly the same way as a normal player, by visiting the account-creation webpage.

Those who wish to continue playing the game once the 10-day free period is over must first visit their local retailer or online store to purchase a copy of World of Warcraft. Once they have obtained a copy of the game, they can log in to WorldofWarcraft.com using their 10-day pass login information and then enter the authentication key that came with boxed copy into the field found at the bottom of their account page.

That's all that's required to activate a full-fledged World of Warcraft account once the 10-day free period has expired. Any characters that players have created during the 10-day trial, along with all their items, will be available for them to continue playing!

Edit: nvm i must've mis read it

That certainly would be nice, but I don't think that's what they mean. More likely, if you extend your account they bill you as usual.

Yeah I mean I can see them making so much money by not charging people to play. We all know its free to keep 40-odd servers running 24/7, plus maintenance, plus continuing development. If not, hey, $60 from every player should somehow cover all their costs from here till eternity. That, and they still turn a profit somehow. I'm guessing it involves building Tauren costumes and going around mugging old laides with a large oversized novelty hammer.

On a slightly less sarcastic note, think about it logically. MMOGs charge for a reason. They have continuing expenses required to even play the game, unlike other games, which rely on players to set up servers. Oh, and Valve with Steam is an exception because not only do they have one of the most successful games of all time funding them, but they have Gabe Newell who has boatloads of money.

The service will also get them about 4x as much money per sale on steam, and be able to sell more stuff for more money. So it sort of pays for itself.

Edit: As well as the advertising on it.

That is one of the most interesting abreviations of 'he will' I have ever seen.

How much is the monthly fee anyway?

    I hope it's not something like 20$

If it's around 10$ or so, I might actually pay for it. The beta has gotten me really interested in MMOs, and this would be my first.
