Problem With Mpg Files

Player closes instantly
I've had this problem for a while but it's getting a bit annoying.. so I ask here for help.

A while back, small video clips with the extension .mpg just stopped working. Large ones still work for some reason though. (Actually, I think it happened about the same time I installed service pack 2.)

I've tried reinstalling all the codecs I had before when it all worked, but it fixes nothing. Tried messing around with the settings too.
Same thing happens in both media player classic and winows media player. Havn't tried any other players.

Any ideas of what's wrong?
Enlighten me, oh mighty forumites!

Edit: What the HECK?! The moment I posted this topic, .mpg files started working again.. and I didn't even DO anything!
I guess we're done here then..

    VLC Media Player

    It can play EVERYTHING.

And you can do cool stuff like stream and watch a movie as your wallpaper!
