<div class="IPBDescription">Opinions REALLY wanted.</div> Ok guys, I'm helping my friend build a new computer. It seems he's hellbent on an Intel P4 socket 775, even though I suggest and Athlon 64 3500 for the same price.

I need your guys' opinions on the matter.

Intel Pentium® 4 550 Processor Prescott 3.4GHz, 800MHz FSB, Socket 775, 1MB Cache Retail with <a href='http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=241768' target='_blank'>http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ductCode=241768</a>

Or

AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 512K, L2 Cache, Socket 939 Windows Compatible 64-bit Processor - Retail with <a href='http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=240410' target='_blank'>http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ductCode=240410</a>

Also, consider the mobo's going with them.

I think we are going to go with the P4, sorry.

    Another question:

How do I find out what kind of motherboard he is using?

Does he do alot of image editing, encoding and 3d rendering, does he need a space heater? Because that's where the prescott core p4's really shine.

Otherwise it would be [less than smart] to get the p4.

Tell him to look at reviews of the processors in the kinds of applications he is going to use them for.
