The little black box thing looks like a fan or somthing....What is it used for? It has two spots at the end of both sides where I can screw it into somthing....Where would I screw it into?

What's that, a rounded IDE? I haven't the foggiest for what the box is for.

Yeah why not have it flat like the others? Or does that offer some kind of advantage? More durability?

Rounded IDE cables have better airflow than standard ribbon cables (think the difference between the mast on a sailboat and the entire flippin' sail) and can be more easily bent to angles that ribbon cables can't.

That said, I still don't know why they included the box. Try it plugged and unplugged and see if it's a fan or some sort of power-regulating-thingy for the lights built into the rounded cable.

Rounded fits and allows airflow better. No idea what the black box is though

It's plugged in and I put my hand over it, but I still couldnt feel any airflow or anything.

On the side, it says somthing like:

"Will work properly if kept in under 40 degrees celcius".

I really like the pull tabs, which is why I got these. I've broke so many of my other ribbon cables...

That's Ribbon cable with a strip of EL wire in it, you plug it in, and it glows purdy

the box is probably the transformer, it can be mounted elsewere on the case, so it looks less cluttered

Airflow, eh? Oh okay, that makes a lot more sense.

The little black box is the converter. Basically changes amps or volts of the current, so that it can be used by the light properly. Make sure you don't cover up the holes though, they do generate some heat, and I've heard horror stories of these things catching on fire and melting because of lack of ventilation.

On another note, I actually have that same cable, only with the blue wire, I eventually just took the El-wire out of it though and ran it along inside my case, then just used the rounded wire regulary.
