Winxp Autoreboots On Startup

<div class="IPBDescription">ars technica forums down, beh</div> Well, heres the issue : Took someones VAIO, ripped out the HD, trying to get the WinXP on it to work so I don't have to reinstall. Mostly because I don't have a WinXP Home CD, only they key (they only come with recovery disks, which also reboot after a certain point :/ ).

The last thing I can see it doing is loading agp440.vxd. Trying to just delete the file from another HD didn't work since I don't have an NTFS disk handy, nor do the 'recovery' disks seem to have a boot option - and using a win98 CD to boot will again disallow me from accessing the harddisk (probably due to NTFS partitioning).

Any suggestions?

I'm confused. You took out the HDD and..

    a) replaced it with a new one in the VAIO?
    b) moved it to another machine and are trying to boot?
    c) put it back in the VAIO and can't get it to boot?

This machine should have come with a disk that can perform a complete install of WinXP. Whether or not it's the recovery disk, I don't know. The step you probably want to take is:

    1. Place the installation disk in the CD drive
    2. Start the machine
    3. Select "Install" from the installation disk
    4. Wait for the installer to recognize the previous XP installation
    5. Select "Repair"

That should clear up any driver and configuration errors at least to the point of being able to boot from the HDD.

Does it pop up with a window about a service failier or something, if so youv got a virus think its blaster or fun love or something, to solve this problem simply keep windows up to date using patches.

It reboots DURING BOOT. And no, its the same HD in a different machine - I realize thats a funky way of doing things, but it should still work. No repair option shows when I insert the recovery CDs, although I still have a load of them to go through.
