Crackling Sound Only With Ns

This was asked once before in the forums but no real solution was posted. And it's been asked in some form or another all over the web but i couldn't find a solution there either.
Whenever I play NS i get a cracling sound in my audio. It's extremely noticeable when someone is using voice comm since their voice is craclking. This does not happen in vanilla Halflife or Counterstrike or any other games i play.
I'm using onboard Nforce audio from an ASus A7V8X-X.
The last post in these forums about it said that NS was extremely picky about audio and if it's going to show up, NS will bring it out. It suggested a vague upgrading of drivers but no known solutions.
Anyone else know of one?

I guess i could see if there is a new 'unified nforce' driver thing somewhere instead. I haven't touched nforce drivers since i put the computer together... oh.... 5 months ago.
I've also tried audio set to low and high.
It's weird. when you first load up NS and move your cursor over any of the options "find server, options, quit, etc" it makes a sound. If i rapidly move the cursor over those i can hear the crackling in the audio. But if i load counterstrike or default halflife there is no problem. Bah. And now that i think about it? A few days ago when i first thought of posting this message i could have sworn that the audio was perfectly fine until someone talked on voice com. So game sounds were smooth, and voice com was crackling. But when i checked just before posting i was getting it all the time, like at the menus as i describe. Maybe some more experimentation is in order.
Thanks for the sugggestions. I'll go look for updated nforce drivers specifically.
