Website / Computer Programing Help Needed

<div class="IPBDescription">html or java type (I believe?)</div> I do not know anything about programming or website building, so I have no clue how long it would take, if you have questions on top of my explanation feel free to ask and I will try to help (if it has to do with programming I wouldn’t be able to help you, info about the fair/duties/what we are looking for... no problem).

I will be doing a volunteer coordination internship for next semester, and one of my first responsibilities is to find someone who can make a very specific website/program (this was found out at my meeting right before I left for break). I first want to tell you a little bit about the context that we will be using it in, and then about what we are looking for. It will be used for volunteer sign-up for a very important Career Fair. I volunteer at Career Services very regularly and have helped at quite a few of these fairs (never in an organizational position, but it many lower ones), and let me tell you, this is Career Services’ baby. It is their favorite and most loved fair; it is the internship/co-op fair so hundreds of undergrads (at Virginia Tech) will be attending this fair. They put a lot of faith in me (tons of people applied, and I am the one they picked to do all volunteer coordination for this fair), and I cannot let them down. I don’t mean to be picky, but this has to be fairly high quality, maybe not extremely high quality, but it can’t be too buggy, it has to be extremely functional (and meet certain requirements (please read below if you are still interested).

What we are looking for is a website with a log-in function (needing to register with a functional e-mail would be a plus/need), that then brings you to a page that has times starting from early in the day (9am) and then goes down the page to later in the day (5pm). At each time slot we would need areas for volunteers to sign up for certain sections. You’ll have the first time block down 9-10, and then under that it’ll have a section for four (and only four) people to sign up for registering students/employers, and then 2 (and only two) for passing out water, 2 for name tags, 2 floaters, etc (then continue this for each hour – some slots we would need less people, if you could set it up with admin right to change it if possible, that would be cool). Again I do not know anything about websites so I am unsure if some of this is even possible or not, so please keep that in mind. At the very top of the page I will have a brief intro paragraph stating how much we appreciate them helping us out, also telling them a little bit about the fair, and then explaining how the website works, and then what each volunteer position entails. The last thing that I would absolutely need is since people will be signing in, we want them to be able to add their name to a list, and then also be able to take their name off the list if they find out they will not be able to help at that particular time.

Some minor things that would be nice if you were able to do would be to make it so that people could not sign up for two sections (water and floater) in one hour (this would be to dummy proof it, of course I would mention that you can only sign up for one section per hour etc.) It would also be awesome if somehow there was a way to easily get a list of names and times people are working to send out (in e-mail form) to all those who have signed up. This is an e-mail I will send out a few times during the semester asking people to please check over the times they are sign-ed up, and check and see if they can still help at that time (and if they can’t to remove their name from the list), so it would need to be the current list that is on the website. If you are bored and this sounds like a fun project to you, I’d really appreciate it if you could help me out. If not it’s no problem. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! I hope everyone had / is having a Happy Holidays.
