I'd like to see everyone's opinion on this matter: Is Bush good for the U.S. and the world, or is he bad for it?
Personally, I think Bush has done a horrible job leading my country, and I REALLY don't want to see him in office for another 4 years. But all "liberal whining" aside, here are my main points:
(Sorry for making this post pretty long, I just kept thinking of things I wanted to say)
Terrorism
In my opinion, Terrorism isn't as dangerous to us as it's made out to be. Some Republicans may say, "That's because the War in Iraq is distracting the terrorists" or something similar. But what many people don’t stop to think about is WHY they want to attack America, as well as other countries: Ignorance. They just don’t understand both sides, and we don’t either. I’m sure more than a few people want to kill Americans because we bombed their house, or shot their son, or killed their friend, or something. I’m not saying that I side with the terrorists, because I don’t, and I’m not saying I’m against the troops, because I’m not. I’m only against ignorance. This war is a further continuation of violence that will keep escalating until both sides decide to make peace. Which, hopefully, will be before the nukes are launched and everyone dies.
Environment
I don’t know much on this topic, but…
I live in Washington State, home of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. A while ago, Bush ordered several thousand unmarked truckloads of nuclear waste to be dumped into Hanford. Many of these trucks have been going right through my city of Spokane on I-90, and have to go right next to Louis and Clark High School. I’m not too sure on this little fact, but while the driver of the truck is safe from the radiation, those standing outside (close to the truck, of course) are at a pretty high risk for low-grade radiation poisoning. I understand the importance of consolidating all the nuclear waste in the country to make it easier to monitor/defend, but here are two points against that: 1) Moving the waste, even in unmarked trucks, carries high risk to people. Especially when they have to go off the interstate, through downtown, and right next to a high school. 2) Hanford is not a permanent site. It was originally built as one of the very first nuclear weapons building sites. A few decades after it was shut down after WW2, it was reopened and fixed up a bit for TEMPORARY storage of nuclear waste. I’m pretty sure that was in the 70’s. Tests show that Hanford is leaking. The groundwater has already been contaminated, and will continue to get worse.
Freedom/Personal Rights
Ok, big issue. In my opinion, a patriot is someone who loves his country. Bush believes he is a huge patriot (if he hasn’t said it directly, it’s obviously implied because of the whole “clothing self in American Flag” thing). But someone who loves his country has a respect for the founders of the country. Bush has gone completely against the First Amendment and here’s why:
I know the Patriot Act is, for the most part, a bipartisan agreement on having this (as far as the politicians, not necessarily the people). Not only is this a huge violation of our first amendment rights, it also fits together extremely well with the Intelligence Reform. Last time I checked up on this (a while ago), the Reform will throw out the current heads of all the major intelligence agencies in the US, and kind of combine the agencies together, making them more effective than before. Then, the President will assign the head of the new intelligence committee. Sounds ok, right? Except for the last part. Bush has always shown dislike for those who don’t agree with his policies, so for his new term, he has assigned a bunch of political friends as his Cabinet. So why wouldn’t he assign an old friend for the head of this new committee? This friend of his would have the ability to arrest people and take away their rights at whim. So what if (and I know this is a little extreme, but it gets my point across) there were a few anti-Bush protestors doing a demonstration, when Bush gets a little annoyed at them and makes a phone call to his buddy? That buddy of his, who would obviously be in Bush’s pocket, could give the order to arrest those demonstrators in the name of national security. I’m not saying this will happen tomorrow, I’m saying this sould easily happen in a few decades. I’m thinking about the downfall of democracy into yet another fascist dictatorship. “Free Speech Zones”? I think that is just another way of silencing those who wish to oppress the oppressor, and let their voices be heard. Those who think protest and change is a bad thing should learn more about U.S. history. Our country would not be independent of England right now if we didn’t protest against them.
I am very afraid that America will turn into some sort of fascist dictatorship. It has been shown throughout time that when people are afraid, they voluntarily give up rights for protection. This can increase until the people have very few rights, and the government has ultimate power over its people and the propaganda of the country.
Look at what happened in Germany: After the Reichstag Fire (a well publicized event, much like 9/11), the people in Germany became afraid of the Communists. This was because a Communist was found near the building, and apparently started the fire. Hitler (or one of his henchmen) almost certainly placed him there and lit the fire himself, but nobody knew it at the time. This fear of Communism led to the fall of personal rights and the rise of Adolph Hitler. I’m not saying that Bush caused 9/11, but from what I can tell, it seems to be a pretty popular theory in Europe. I’ll have to rely on the Europeans on this forum to let me know if this is true or not. However, there are many shocking similarities between Bush and Hitler. Ill put down the website on another post, once I find it…
I know I can go on to the Economy, but I don’t know very much at all about that.
There are also a few things I want to say about the combination of Religion and government, but I’m too tired to. Maybe in a later post.
Sorry if any of these points are “old news” or anything, but I haven’t had much time to read the paper and check out information online and stuff since school started. Sorry if I offended anyone with my opinion. I don’t mean to offend anyone; I just want to let my voice be heard. Anyone who disagrees with me on any of my points, please keep the flaming to a minimum. Also, please clearly state what you think, and give a good reason why you think that. I know this is stated in the rules, but I’m sure a good amount of the people who will read this thread won’t look at the rules.

Well, that's what I thought when I read the title anyway. Let's just say my opinion was "anyone but Bush", but that my opinion does not count, since nobody asks anybody outside the US who THEY want sitting at the nuclear button. Your president can kill me on a whim, but I cannot decide who gets to be the president. Unfair.
All kidding aside, I fully agree with your fears regarding "Freedom/Personal Rights". Throw in all the misplaced religion (I'm not against religion, I'm just against extremists, muslim, christian or otherwise), and we have the ugly shadow of a Chistian Fundamentalist U.S.A. looming. It's probably only a remote possibility, but one so horrible that it must be recognized.
Fear and religion can both be used to control the masses. Don't let them get to you, and you do your country a favour.
It wouldn't have mattered if Kerry was president right now, or that Bush IS president right now. Nothing would have changed anyways! We would still end up working and having to pay taxes.
The same way nixon is part of your history.
I am trying to think of anything, anything at all Bush has done which could be considered good, but I can't. I used to dislike him, then I liked him, now I absolutely loathe him. Can someone please tell us something good that he and his administration has ever done?
Expect looser policies on embryonic stem cell research, more money put into renewable energy sources and hydrogen cars. Pretty much the same as what arnie's doing in California.

I've lived in USA for about 5 years of my life... I have USAen friends n'all with whom I still keep in touch...
now, past that introduction, lemme give you an insight on how "other parts of the world view USA", in very short and generalistic bursts:
* more than half of you are ignorant rednecks... ignorance in regards to the rest of the world, that is... whereas other countries have a general worldwide view of things...
* you only see that which is shown to you, and what is shown to you is never the whole truth, therefore your average citizens' points of views tend to be xenophobic, misconstrued and paranoid...
* the US is an empire in slow decay, much like Rome was...
* the Bushes were (are?) "friends" and "business partners" with the Bin Ladens... this fuels a general idea that, well, either they're friends and therefore it was all staged (9/11, the war), or that they had a disagreement much like sicilian clans might suddenly offend each other or something...
* americans hate the fact that USA inhabitants, in sheer pompousness, call themselves "americans" as if they were the only ones in the whole frickin continent (just a fun fact I thought I'd throw in)
ok, so... there ye go... just thought I'd put that here, so's to take into account...

Dont tell me about "in your opinion" - tell me your recommendation. I am getting sick and tired of people whining about terrorist alerts and paranoia, but dont have the balls to get up and make a suggestion. So spit it out - tell us that the terrorist threat is mythology, and we can stop being worried.
I have no idea what you are going on about with understanding and ignorance. Its not that we dont understand why they are attacking us - its on their friggen websites. There is no secret here, no hidden psychological reasons, they want all the Jews dead, and they want the rest of us to submit to Islam. That is straight from the horses mouth, it doesnt get much simpler than that. And I deny outright the claim that most of even half are attacking the US because we bombed their houses. Almost without exception, every suicide bomber in the 9/11 attacks were from affluent Saudi families. No death from America, no attacks by America, just onto the plane and into the windows.
But we share one thing in common - we despise ignorance. I despise leftwing ignorance that pretends we dont understand the Islamofacist, and I despise leftwing ignorance that believes the war in Iraq will all end in disaster. Fortunately for you, ignorance ends

Sorry mate, but that nuclear waste has to go somewhere - no one wants it in their back yard. That leakage you are talking about has occured over 30 years, and is currently being cleaned up, but of course Bush is Satan, so I'm sure him, Halliburton, and the Zionist controlled media were at least partially responsible. He probably leaked it himself while he was AWOL!!!!111 Once again, I'm all ears as to your vastly superior suggestions for nuclear waste transport - I would be interested to hear what you figured out that paid professionals didnt already consider....

Bush assigns his political friends to cabinet positions? What the hell else would he do? How many Republicans were in Clinton's cabinet? You win the election, you get control of the cabinent. Why they hell would you stack it with people who dont like your vision? If someone decides halfway along that they aint all to thrilled with the plan, then they get a foot in the rear - as Colin Powell can testify to. Whats wrong with that? If you were a general and you had an upstart colonel that constantly challenged your authority, you'd give him the boot quicksmart.

Right, bust out the tinfoil hats boys, we're all goin liberal. If you want to be treated seriously, then quit with the ludicrous hypotheticals. Bush has had more whiners on his case in the last three years than just about any President ever, and he increased his vote last election. Why would he arrest protesting moonbats when they achieve sweet FA? In your country, you cant just have everyone in your pocket, do whatever the hell you like and then get away with it - ask Nixon about it. If you want to claim the Patriot Act has changed things since Nixon's time, then prove it.

Yeah that's what happened in Germany eh. The citizens gave up their rights, then Hitler was in complete control because of it. This is why Americans need to teach less American history, and teach more world history, so crackpot theories such as the above will be recognised for the garbage they are. Prior to these so called "giving up of liberties", the Nazi party was willing to threaten and kill its political opponents. You think the ACLU would have been able to help - they would have been hounded out of existance before the first political "attack" on personal liberties.

Which explains my contempt for European intellectuals. The factors involved in the rise of Hitler were many fold, a sense of national shame after WWI, anger at how their country was in financial ruin because of the war repatriations demanded, blaming the Jews for everything, the list goes on. Europeans that entertain theories like this are racist - plain and simple. They hate American's, and develop theories to ridicule and demonise the Je... uhh.. redneck American's.
To conclude - I like Bush. A whole hell of a lot. I used to hate his guts, until he started to push for a war in Iraq. Having railed against the evils of America for years, here, finally, was an American President starting a war he had every intention on following through and making it a success to depose a dictator Americans had set up in the first place. I was absolutely stunned when my leftwing friends continued to hate Americans and their President. My leftwing hatred of America was based around a long list of American sins, and contempt for their callous handling of foreign policy - but here we had a choice between supporting an American, or a brutal dictator, and my leftwing friends chose the dictator. I recognised that they had abandoned rational criticism of American for pure hatred, I said my goodbyes and never looked back.

As opposed to your wonderful country which currently has people chanting to the rain god in their clay huts.
If you want to sit here and take shots at Americans, I'll take a few at you.
Well that goes way back into history when the USA was the only recognized independent country in the Americas. Actually I think the British had been calling them Americans long before they started calling themselfs that, since anyone else in the Americas at that point was either a British colonial or a savage.

no, really, I don't actually care to argue with anyone about these issues... but, what the hell... it's fun... get it on...
anyway, I just thought it'd be good for y'all yankers to know what the general thinking is from the "outside" point of view, y'know...
...weeeeell, yeah, that and a little bit of rubbing you the wrong way to see how "sensitive" you all are with the "bashing the country thing"...
(guess some o' you just might actually have a deep, deeeep down feeling of... uuuumm... guilt, maybe? )

That's some good English. Anyway, I'm not a super patriot - but when some fool who has no idea what is he talking about (read: you ^_~ ) thinks he can stereotype an entire people and make fun of them at the same time whilst his country has done nothing positive for the world (read: worthless ) that sorta gets on my nerves.

Uh, if we must measure his society to the USA's, I dont think there's something to take shots at. Besides, he is an american as well
During the the days between Christmas and new year, we had visitors from the US, relatives of close friends of our familiy.
They are a married white couple around from Wahington DC. She has an degree in economical sciences, he is a leading employer in a renown publishing house.
They are to be considered conservative and they factor into the field of US citizens that benefit from recent changes in taxiation.
They are Republican voters since ever, however they did not vote for Bush. Both times....
Also, considering the exreme slim "marigin of error" in both elections, your claim of only peaceloving Students being the major enemies of Bush is completely haltless.
Also, the latest reports I have heard from are that the actual majority of the US population dislikes Bush in terms of popularity. A common reason for reelecting him was, that the country is currently engaged in war and many US citicens feel uncomfortable with the thought of changing the government during crisis.

Yes but we don't live in the past. In the past, the N word was commonly used. People living in current France were called Gauls, that doesn't mean we're still Gauls.

Looks like we have a Gaul on our hands guys, better get the Legion archers up so we can kill 80% of them before we just mow them down with our heavy calvalry from behind.
OK, folks, I figure it was inevitable after the out-time...
