Can This Be Runned With Half-life 2 Or Cs:s?

I have hl2(comes with cs:s) and I am having some problems with the game.
It is installed, but I don't know where to place the folder.
I search on servers and I can see a few under "ns_" and "co_" but whenever I click on them, the steam advertisement(the browse games pop-up) for half-life comes up.
Does this work with hl2 and cs:s, and if so, how can I get steam to let me in the game rather than give me the pop-up?

    ScaryCrow,
This game only works with the Half-life 1 engine. If you bought a copy of HL2 that came with a back catalog, you should be able to install the original half-life and play it. If Half-life 1 is installed, then the installer should find the right directory to put the game.

But I thought HL2 engine was fully backwards compatible for all HL mods...

Is there any workaround to get NS working on Halflife 2?

Eventually, Natural-Selection: Source might be released.

That would be a direct port to Source. Right now you can only play in Half-life 1 though. <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I don't believe I can get half-life without purchasing it.
So I'm going have to get half-life: source, or the original half-life to play?

you have to have HL1 (not HL:S)

and how did you lose your key?, was it never registered with Steam? (if you ever registered it with steam, then you still have access to HL1)

or you could go bargin bin hunting and find a copy of HL for $5
