Yeah, I mean, if it could do 3-D objects, then thats something else entirely. But I don't think thats possible, because even if you lined up a bunch and had each project a cross section, you could see to far through it.
They say the device sucks air in, modifies it in some way, then shoots it out and illuminates it with a light source. I wonder, though, what happens when you shoot two different light sources from slightly different perspectives on the same spot. Does the image appear in perspective?
So it's not actually a hologram in the sense that it's 3d, it's just a projector projecting onto air instead of a screen/glass. Still kinda cool I guess.
woah, that has to be one of the coolest things i have ever seen. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->
If they're blowing air and having it relfect off that... its not that much of a breakthough. IIRC they had 3d "holograms" being projected onto smoke in the 80s.
P.S. Dont take my word for it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

This is not volumetric!. So not a hologram
wait so.. gordon freeman = god???
:O
Wait, if they had that, wouldn't that kind of... um... lame? For online play I mean. I mean, it'd turn "point and click interface" to "point."
I take it you haven't seen <a href='http://projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/projects/MEDIA/xv/oc.html' target='_blank'>optical camoflauge</a>. :P
