WTH Is Wrong With The Hitboxes

commando_carlcommando_carl Join Date: 2005-01-06 Member: 32997Members
I mean seriously, sometimes i will be looking smack dab at a skulk, shoot him 2 or 3 times with a lvl 2 shotty, point blank, and he doesnt die. its freaking **** if you ask me. ive shot a skulk 5 times and no death with a lvl 1 shotgun on combat and he didnt die, and it was a normal skulk, becasue i had a :26 second shotgun.
I have pretty good aim, and ping 60- constantly. i dont know if it the ns hitboxes or laggyhitboxes from hl1 , but its relaly screwed up, and it pisses me off, alot.

Another thing is with lmg, if you shoot an afk with like 8 bullets he dies. ive wasted 20+ bullets on a skulk and he was running dead at me, and doesnt die. then 1 guy following me shoots him with 1 bullet and kills him.

Then theres other times when im alien and i ahve to bite the marines 3 times on the beginning of game when i rush there base or somthing, and they dont even have enough time to get armor 1.

Last, theres the 150 hp and like 50 armor, when you get killed by a lmg in like 2 seconds as fade with that amount of health.

Anyways, i dont know about yall but this is really making me mad, and i dont know if its happening to yall, but its deffinitly happening to me

Hit boxes are supposivly fixed. I heard it from a PT and I hope what he says is true. I just love when I shoot a skulk when hes jumping foward at me and I unload 20 bullets and he doesnt die.

well, after they supposedly fixed it, things were cool for a while.. then more stuff started to show up.

but i have to say, these problems (i've been getting them too) aren't as bad as they were, so at least the fixed some stuff. give em that.

Just to warn people, those are examples of the worse cases of the problem. On an earlier match today it was hardly noticable, even with 100-150 ping. ^_^

Also the devs know about it and will no doubt work on it.

It's because in b5 they use traceline hitboxes... which aren't as good as the hitboxes cagey made for us.

    It's better in b6, that's guarenteed <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So? I've never see it that bad, even under worse conditions. TBH you make it sound like every shot will miss, and it's nowhere near that bad. As I said: it's hardly noticable in normal gameplay.

I'll repeat what I said in the CM forum about this:

What was fixed was the actual shape of the hitboxes now registers according to the hitboxes defined in the model. (Use a model viewer to see what they're like.) There is nothing in the changelog about lagging hitboxes, as far as I know.

And lagging hitboxes is not new to b6.

that's all very well saying that laggy hitboxes have been around in ns from the start however in the case of that movie there was no good reason for the hibox to be lagging so much, the server was decent, and both players had low pings yet the hitbox lags a couple of metres behind the model.

The second i recorded shows a very strange bug where the fade hitbox seems to be missing entirely, i don't know what's going on but i'd say that atm the hitboxes in the current b6 build are much less reliable than the b5 ones.

    1 SG and 1 LMG.
And you obviously miss the part in the beginning where the fade slashes the marine, blood shows, knockback happens but not damage is taken ^^

2 sgs one lmg, 1st sger lands 2 hits, fade begins to blink away, 2nd sgers gets one hit, fade blink away significantly, 1st sger shoots the wall far below the fade model and gets a registered hit

I can assure you that that avl's rates are ok. Tjosan force us to use super tweaked haxrates! >_>

Didnt they fix that "last player to join, lagging hitbox" bug ?.Wasnt it the ns community that discovered it.Looks to me like a combo of rates vs server vs player isp vs server location.Notice the players netcode and the 0 0.00k/s out i would love to see the fades netgraph at that moment.

And what level guns do the rines have in that second clip, looks like major damage is done and the poor sucker catches two or three pelets and a few hmg round in feet.

the damage is probably not taken because the demo is rewinded and it still got the old information about hp/armor
so when the fade hits and blood shows avl is actually down on 75 health already and it doesnt look like its updated

dunno if anybody noticed, but the reason that the shot lagged is because he has 2715 ms. that means he's got, at that exact moment, 2 seconds of lag to the server. it might just be a spike, but meh.

    anyways, isnt ex_interp locked?
  • LazyEyeLazyEye Join Date: 2005-01-06 Member: 32959Members, NS1 Playtester

Net_graph does not show the correct ping values for demos.

edit: and no ex_interp is not locked, it was unlocked in beta 5, the only way it is "locked" is that if you set it to 0 it foces it self to a higher value based on your cl_updaterate.

Those are screenshots from a demo. Readings from demos relating to ping aren't accurate.. at all.

Please note that "hitboxes" are not the only possible cause of hit registration problems. Please add any relevant information to this thread instead of speculating wildly in general discussion:
