are you sure you installed it in the right place....
it should be installed to C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\account name\half-life

    Hello There,

You need to have played through the Half-Life hazard training mission to get NS to work.

I can't recall if it is before you install NS or not, but I can say for sure that I

    ...installed HL
    ...played the hazard course
...then installed NS and everything worked fine.

Hope this helps, sorry if I have suggested things that you have tried already.

    Regards,

i think you just have to install steam and play any steamsupported game, so your accountname is created on your pc, then you can install ns. atleast that worked for me

I am having the same problem. I used to play NS under the WON network. Since the new versions of ns are only available under steam, I was compelled to switch. I installed steam, selected HL and played the training mission. I then installed NS under the default directory, e.g. programs\steam\steamapps\my steam email address\half-life. I have two problems.
    1) I can not choose NS as a filter option. I read a posting about copying original image to the directory listed above, but that is no longer an option, as I no longer have those original images. I can find NS servers under find server option of steam. I just can't select NS games only.
    2) When I select an NS game to play, which is an NS 3.0 beta 5 server, I get an error, which is version of cl_dlls\client.dll differs from servers. I downloaded the latest NS from this site and had no other version installed previously. Also, the background on loading is that of Gordon Freeman, as opposed to an NS background.

Anyone have a clue as to how to proceed?

I am operating under Windows XP home with service pack 2 installed.

    Thanks,
    MacMan

    Hello MacMan,

How was your version of Half-Life installed/downloaded? Is it definately the latest version.

Here's what I did...and my set up is working fine.

...Bought Half-Life 2 on DVD, this installed steam
...Now I already had Half-Life, but it wasn't installed at that time
...so I downloded Half-Life so that it went in with my current steam set up
    ...installed NS
    ...played <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Of course depending on what you have installed etc will change how you need to get the latest versions as there are patches galore to get a version of Half-Life updated and 'Steamed' which is what you need it be to play NS.

If you need anymore help, any chance you can post what your version is and how you installed it.

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

    Losbad

I've tried all your ideas and they didn't work. I follow the installer directions carefully 6 times and it still doesn't work. Any other ideas?
