768 up and down for 40 bucks?
Wireless, guarnteed speed and you can add satellite tv and phone service(voice over IP). Check it.
All speeds up and down, Guaranteed

512 Kps for 29.95 a month
768 Kps for 39.95 a month
1.5 Mps for 59.95 a month

Commercial hookups can go to 3.0 Mps.

This is brand new technology thats wicked cool. Only available in Colorado right now, its kind of a test market but the stuff is proven.
Its much faster and cheaper than anything our there right now. My cable modem says its 1.5 but its split between 1000 homes, i rarely get above 2 or 3 hundred down and about 60 up. Right now I get 30-60 ping. Jump my speed about 10x and goodbye ping.

Nah man, that's old. Next generation broadband is FIOS, brought to you by Verizon. It's Fiber Optic, and for $40 per month you get 5 mb down and 2 mb up. It's only available in Texas right now, but it'll be much wider spread within the next year or so. $50 per month gets you 15 mb down/2 up, and $200 per month will net you a lovely 30 mb down/5 up.

Yeah, but in colorado at least this is by far the best game in town. Its real upside is its wireless so it can go anywhere quick. Granted, mostly businesses want this if they have old building they dont want to rewire but if youre in colorado qwest isnt going to do anything to upgrade the 1.5 cable theyve just run a few years ago. Old news maybe but I dont see anyone running it as is.

Plus, im not selling that stuff youre talking about. Gotta pay the bills right?

the only reason it's good for colorado is because qwest sucks **** and takes their huge qwestapo alliance with the evil empire of microsoft and RAMS it up unsuspecting broadband customers' butts in a graphic display of monopolistic rear-ravishing.

Bytes or bits per second? Big difference.

Your cable modem is running normally, btw. You actually have more upload bandwidth than most 1.5mbits/s do. Not that it makes much of a difference for games anyway (usually use UDP, so no acks, and not all that much transmission to server beyond that).

Also, it's silly to think bandwidth will mean better pings. The only thing it will do is decrease the pain you feel when someone else in the house is using the internet as well. Ping depends much more on the various sources of latency in your connection, like bottlenecks and relays, and cable isn't all that good for it. Sadly, reliable data on that subject is hard to find without giving all the local services a shot.

Ive heard that verizon is putting in fiber optic lines in NJ and right here in new york too...

Wish i had it. I like my provider (Optimum online) but lately they have been a lil unstable.

Funny thing is, I go to UWSP and the Charter cable there sucks, but 100 miles east over here the connection is a rock solid Road Runner connection with a 40-60 ping.

I'd be fine with just taking existing technology and making it cheaper, kind of like dial-up used to be pretty expensive and is now pretty much $10-20.

FIOS isnt just available in texas, its also in alot of other areas. proof: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/fiberoptics

Also wireless internet isnt anything new, i can think of 2 providers within 20 miles of me that has it. My friend happens to have one, great pings and speed. 3mbit down and 1 mbit up or so.

In Sweden at least, students can get 10mbit up/down with no cap for <$15 / month, often for free...
