<div class="IPBDescription">tips plzzz</div> when you guys scan a drawing, how do you keep it looking like a sketch?

when i scan mine the lines become 10X darker and quite a bit thicker, making the quality of the image quite poor, and its hard to make out some of the features.

is it just down to the quality of the printer?

or when you guys draw and know that you will end up scanning up, do you just lean lighter or what?

EDIT

<a href='http://home.ripway.com/2004-10/192479/random/alien2.jpg' target='_blank'>pic</a>

thats an example of what im talking about, as you can see the lines are realllyyy dark... and the areas with a bit of shading just came out black to, making some lines really thick. the elbow areas for example, were the spikes come out of them its just a blackish circle, but in my sketch its actually seperate defined lines.

im new to the whole scanning thing, so i dont know if this is common or not, would just like to know if theres a way around it, thanks <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Just scan in at high DPI, I'd say at least 300, if you really can't figure out what the prob is, photoshop it brighter

    hehe i figured that out earlier, i made it 600 dpi, put the new image in the new alien to compare the two, thanks anyways <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Scan in grayscale, knock it up to about 300 DPI, and try touching it up with Photoshop. Is there a brightness setting on the scanner?

    Just a tip, if you have some excess lines, go the Levels adjustor (Image/Adjust/) in Photoshop and mess with it until you get a nicer, cleaner piece. I do it myself, now. I used to not, until I found it and found its awesomeness. Comes in handy if you draw with a pencil.

    Scan it at at least 300 dpi, go higher if you can afford it. More DPI = Better Quality.

    Right there. That's how I scan my stuff. Your scanner might be called something different, but that should be it. Hope it works for you.

    scanning, okay, to keep it as a sketch, i scan greyscale, though currently i use colour scann, but i always scan at 150-800 dpi to keep all the detail.

    if you need to make the lines more visible i use psp 8 and setting the colour paint brush to black then set the blend mode to overlay like pictured

    <img src='http://opticpower.com/kylie/tut1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

    then colour over the image and then the result should be this
