Ns Too Dark

<div class="IPBDescription">Keeps lowering my gamma/brightness</div> Im using a radeon 9800pro, my gamma and brightness settings are full in the device settings, ive tried max gamma/brightness in the config.cfg files, i have gamma/brightness at max in the NS options and my monitor has full brightness. My desktop can be glaringly bright, but as soon as the NS window is active, the gamma gets turned way down so I can hardly see in the darker parts of the map and its making it really hard to play.
Ive tried the gamma increase hotkey in Powerstip but NS seems to lock my gamma so it doesnt work.
My device drivers are of course up to date, and the ResetGamma.exe thing resets the gamma to the low level i dont want.
Any suggestions? :/

I have the same problem. I tried using a buddies monitor and it looked normal, narrowing my problem to the monitor.

Might want to test with a different one and see if its any better/worse/same.

The thing is, if im in window mode and I alt-tab out, open the display settings and go to the colours tab then the gamma goes up. I can then see the NS window with great brightness, just how I would like to play it. The problem is as soon as I click on the NS window again, the gamma goes straight down so I know my setup is capable of the right brightness, its just resisting it.

That being said I do need a new monitor, this one is fairly old and crappy but I wasnt planning on upgrading just yet.

    Download Powerstrip from www.download.com
It helps you adjust gamma and brightness in game.
"Ctrl"+"Alt"+"+" brightens up ur screen and you are able to se the aliens hiding in the dark <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

While powerstrip works for other half life mods i have this problem with, it doesnt work for NS, nothing happens when i press the hotkeys unfortunately.

That's by design; the dev's don't want people using powerstrip. I'd like you to try something - open your console (~ key) and type 'lightgamma' and pressing enter. I need to know what number it's set at.

Lightgamma is a setting that controls how dark your screen is - the higher it is, the darker your screen.

That might be it, lightgamma comes up as "2.5" in the console but im not sure how to alter it, putting a lower value in config.cfg doesnt seem to change the value.

That's because it was locked to be above 2.5 - some people claimed a low lightgamma value let you see cloaked aliens. Since I've never seen any proof of that, and cloaking is much better in B6, add this to your userconfig to get around the lock:

    lightgamma X
    alias lightgamma ""

Just replace X with any number from 0 up.

lightgamma can't have a value lower than 2. The lower the value, the brighter the game. It was probably locked because of people whinig about "gamma hackers".

Ahhhhh well with the fiddling around with scripts to get the lightgamma thing working, it turned out my scripts wernt being executed properly. Sorted that out now and all is working fine, many thanks everyone.
