I'm already a Constie, but I would say that if a pre-pay would make you an automatic Constie with the same sort of perks we get now, it would definately help attract people. Then, even if the game never made it, your 25$ would still be just as much worth it as my Constie donation was (though I felt it was owed for past fun more than in expectation of new fun).

I believe one of the reasons NS is so popular is because it runs on the HL engine and the HL multiplying community is so large. I also think a natural progression of Natural Selection would be to move to the HL2 (Source) engine. I don’t think we want allot of change as much as improvements in graphics as HL is becoming somewhat aged.
If you came out and said that NS2 would definitely be on the HL2 engine, I would feel much more secure in preordering NS2 because I think the chances of success would be much greater.
Im yet to see if this constie payment reaches Flay (since my last 20$ got stolen).. Im in doubt if I have the guts to pre-order via postal mail, but Im sure I will buy the game if it goes retail!
From the way people are voting, I'd say that if you aren't a hard gamer then I would not put your money into it. However if you are and you like NS, go for it its only a few bucks and while your at it donate something. The community should take notice that the NS creators have made this game out of the goodness of their hearts to give us a great game for nothing but satisfaction. They deserve some damn good money and the attenchion they deserve. Much Props to you guys.

My first thought would be, where is Valve in all this? NS is by a long way the most popular 3rd party mod for HL. Surely that has some influence with them. They have all the resources that you need, cash, delivery system, expertise....

I only buy games if they have been out for atleast a month so i can hear about compatibility issues,, major bugs for instance the state of hl 2 when it came out.
Defo need some more info it doesnt have to be concrete but defo plans and ideas.
Plus im one of those annoying people that will and does pay that extra to amke sure he gets a cd and manual so id prob only pre-buy if you could guarantee id get these.
--It takes a long time to finish this game, and I don't know whether I will spend time playing games in 2 years time. I am 23 and at the UNI and one day or other Real Life will catch up with me. Then Gaming could be the first hobby I drop.

As many have said this game has given me alot more fun and enjoyment than any other game I've played and I hope NS2 will continue in that trend. My only question is where do I sign up.
I would happily pay more, even, than $30 for the product
(A small request though) During the development cycle, i would really want regular updates to feel good as a customer (/ low scale invester). I hope this post doesn't come accross as though it is tainted with troll, as this is not how i intend it to be read, I simply wish to set out what it is i as a consumer, expect, so as to be truly happy with parting with my money <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Thanks Charlie, for the opportunity to help keep a (very significant, if NS's popularity is anything to go by) portion of gaming free from the pigopolists evil grasp.
Its a WAY better investment than smoking/drinking(alcohol!)/coffee/fastfood/drugs/overpricedshitclothes. Everyone who can post here can spare 25bucks easily. But more infos would be nice <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I would be more than willing to pay right now (and if it ever comes out with a box, manual, and all the trimmings, I'd get a copy of that as well).
I've donated $50 to NS. At the time, there was nothing for me in the deal (i.e. I didn't have to, and doing so provided no significant benefits), but I did so anyway, because I love the game.
Not every investment pays off as expected. If NS2 really comes out, then all right, a bonus; I could say that I had a hand in the development. If it doesn't, then no big deal, I'd consider it as another donation to NS.
i would but not just yet, il wait to june or so when i get myself a job for the summer, im at college atm so dont have much money <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm part of the French community, and, we spoke about that today. We massivly think that's not a good thing.
Here are the reasons why :
-Pre-order a game 2-3 years in advance is not a good idea -We aren't sure this game will issue one day -Pre-order will maybe not allow us to have info about the game ( akind of constellation ?? money >> info and beta test ??) -We still don t see something looking like NS:S so, thinking of a NS2 now..... -Personally, when i buy a game, i like to have a CD, a box and a manual (that's just for me)
But, giving money when the game will have reached a certain step of development, why not ......... but, actually, it's no.
There is no way I'd spend any amount of money now on NS2, a game that in all likelihood won't be out for at least three years, if ever.
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Getting funded by the community means a greater chance of us deciding when we ship (instead of a publisher doing so)<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
lol? I would much rather have a publisher make hard deadlines for NS2, because Flayra and crew have time and time again demonstrated an absolute inability to set a schedule and keep it. I'll believe NS2 when I see it, and I doubt I'll see it for a very, very long time.

I voted yes for a couple of reasons.
1. I think the idea is both innovative and forward thinking 2. It's more of an investment than a purchase. Many entrepreneurs face financial difficulties and based on Charlie's last few years, I'm willing to risk my money. 3. Even after donating for Constellation, I don't think I've paid full price for the game that I play more than any other in my catalogue. 4. There is good reason to believe that a large involvement in this program could speed up NS2 development.
Maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic for the time before the initial NS release, but I remember the excitement so many of us had getting development snippets and in some cases having an impact on the final version. Charlie doesn't need as much imput from us as he did initially but if a few bucks will help him move forward faster, count me in.
Feel free to smite me down with your flamey anti-fanboy rants.
I wish I could but I don't have the ability to invest the money in something that I may never use. Not because I think it won't be released but rather I don't know if I will be playing computer games 3 or 4 years from now. If it is released I will probably buy it. Or even preorder it at a later date when I am better able to.
I've voted "yes, but when i have more information".
It's too early to pay for something we don't know a thing about. We don't even know what it will be, and I can't imagine a single player for a FPS/RTS such as NS, so I'd think it's somewhat different, and if it's a regular RTS or FPS with no tactical element, I won't buy it.
Also, as FireWater pointed out, if you don't go through a publisher, don't forget the marketing. It gets the game a lot more players, more than the community will ever get by telling their friends.
<b> From Flayra:</b> Heh, did you ever think for a minute that we'd produce 'a regular RTS or FPS'? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
At the current point of the developent I would say.. No. Simply because of the reason that I havn't really seen anything yet. I wouldn't want to spend my money on something which has not gone over the planning stage of development. Especially since the complete website and forum downtime of nearly two months incuding namechanges kind of didn't stengthen my belief in the NS development team. At the moment I don't feel well with the idea to give my money away on something which I don't even know if it's ever comming. Okay, you developed the current NS, and I highly respect that. I like the game as it is, even if I don't like everything of it, but about NS2 I know nothing yet. I know that it will be a sequel to NS, but will it be like the current NS? will I like it? what type will it be ? etc. etc. Proove yourself, proove that the team can pull it off, give out more details about the game, and I'm willing to think about it again.
and yes, I would want a cd, cover, box and that stuff.. I made the failure once with HL2 to buy it online and download it, and I reget it.

To pay for a product before there is at least a working prototype is completely crazy. Businesses break all the time even with good people and ideas leading them.
Any other investment of this length and risk would have a significant cash payoff upon success. Maybe if you had a consumer investment program with returns equal to the risks, but if the only payoff for my multi-year investment is a copy of a game worth the same amount as what I invested... that is just bad business on my end.

The engine factor is important, the time it will take to develop, steam or not, Design, maps, etc.
One should not invest in anything that is not sure of what it's gonna be like. I'll "invest" for sure, once some of the questions get answers.
Make a Q&A place, ear our questions and provide some answers. We ALL need to know what NS2 is gonna be. The more we know, the more you get.
