I would really recommend the Unreal Engine for NS2 if any developers read this. Why? Because when you license it Epic is continually imrpoving the technology behind it and any new additions to the engine you already have payed for, so basically you will get th latest tch for ur game no matter when u licensed it. Also, it's my personnel preference that Hammer Editor is **** compared to UnrealEd. In UnrealEd you can move\rotate\zoom the 3d view camera around, select objects, add objects, edit their properties, move objects, apply textures.... you can do this ALL in the 3D view without selecting additional tools (no selecting camera tool or select tool), you can do all of that with just the mouse and the ALT and CTRL keys. Well I'm just used to modding in the unreal engine and I after HL2 came out I finally realized how much I absolutely hate hammer editor.
Also with UnrealEd you can design large complex parts of elvels with 3d modelling programs like 3DSMAX, I really like static mesh implementation in the unreal engine.
Furthermore, the source engine is still using archaic lighting methods that IMO became obsolete with Deus Ex: Invisible War and Doom 3. HL2 is pretty much the greatest and best of old prerendered lighting, while DX:IW and Doom3 were pretty much the latest in brand new tecghnology. Lighting is obvisouly important in a game like NS, so I would definately go for either unreal or doom3 tech, but IMO unreal is the best choice.
I also am a big fan of unreal's hierchal class system, the only thing u really need for coding game files is notepad, the engien comes with compiler for class files, well for building EXE or engine stuff is differnet, but for code that makes everything else present ingame I find it very convenient and easy to modify.
Anyway hopefully we'll start seeing some cool screens of super high poly models etc. once you start working on NS2 Be sure to make models as high quality as possible, you can always optomize multiple low poly versions of originals depending on what ahrdware you think people will have when game is released, and apply normal maps using ur super high originals. I'm sure everyone here can't wait for mroe game info, great work on NS1 truly one of most innovative games ever played.

and you have to think about the devteam
their mappers would have to learn a new mapping tool
dunno about modelers and other such stuff
either way, from what i have seen, source is a better choice (and one that supposedly supports easy porting of HL1 mods)
Why would they you still have to BUY NS2 which will come with an engine so that arguement is void.

If you enjoy playing NS would you stop because of the engine its on?
Ns has a community of its own now independant of HL or the source engine
