Serverdoc Vs Firedaemon

FireDaemon lags my client
Over the holidays my serverdoc.exe needed an update. I downloaded the latest patch from their website and installed it (I've done this many many times) and it was a bad patch. As I couldn't use ServerDoc I got desperate and installed FireDaemon. I liked it for one reason (my server automatically restarts after a power outage) but could not play on my server.

You see, for years I have ran a Win32 hlds on my box AND successfully played client side from the same computer, no issues whatsoever (using ServerDoc). With FireDaemon installed and configured properly I cannot play due to horrific lag issues - all player's actions are horribly choppy and it's unplayable for me. As I recall, players also complain about lag issues the moment I join.

So I've reverted to ServerDoc (now that the proper exe is available on their site and I am updated) but I have to wonder, why can't I run FireDaemon on my server AND play from the same box?

if your running a dedicated server and playing on it on the same box, thats an extremely bad idea. one of the reasons i would think that would cause extreme lag is because the hlds.exe and hl.exe are trying to dedicate all the cpu power to them and allocating huge amounts of ram (hl.exe on my computer with the ns mod running uses around 263 megs of ram)

anyways the server will start lagging bad if the cpu gets bogged down with something else like you playing on it on the same computer.

i have the same problem when i vnc into my server, the average players ping rises about 40 + their normal ping, and when im moving the mouse around, it gradually gets worse.

the best solution would probably to start a listen server so that everything is wrapped up in one process and it can do whatever it wants to with the system resources. the bad thing about listen servers though, it that if they get out of focus (switch to another application) it causes all the clients to lag, or pauses the server.

I can run my server AND client from the SAME box and have done so for several years. The problem mentioned here is totally related to FireDaemon, or how I have it configured.

still, having the dedicated server and client on the same box is a bad idea.

That is simply a myth, and I wish people would stop repeating it.
My testimony is proof enough of that, so don't try to **** the bullshitter, hey?
