Webcams And Videocoferencing

Yeah well.. a customer want's to set up a videoconferencing system and asked if we know something about it. Since we never had to do something on that topic, I checked out some systems which make that possible. But these professional vido conferencing systems are way too expensive for them, and they want a cheaper solution.
So..an idea was, that everyone of them sets up a webcam, and the webcam streams are bundled on a webpage resulting in a very basic videoconferencing system.
So well here comes the question pool:
Does that look possible? which webcams should they use and which webcam software allowes it to broadcast live streams from audio and video ?
That's it basically. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Doesn't msn messenger [version 6+] have this feature?

Just get them all webcams, headphones with mics, and instruct them in how to set it up on msn [include a free 'cybersex for dummies' class].

    NetMeeting?
It's free, everyone (well, XP users) have it installed by default, and it can handle multiple users. (Unlike MS network)

Video streaming over a webpage... args. Lots to consider. Security comes to mind, then there's the issue of sending your stream there in the first place. I don't know enough of any server side languages to help you here, but I can appreciate the complexity. If you're an ace with ASP or something then go right ahead.

As it stands, a free ware app or NetMeeting is probably the best bet.
    Winkey+R, conf.exe

If you just want Audio, "Skype" is a brilliant program that even works behind routers.

Can't have your webcam on if there's more than two people in a conversation. Or at least I haven't been able to.

Edit: Well, that's what I meant BlueNovember.

well netmeeting has some really bad quality in video.
Does msn allow a conference of 6 users at the same time?

Yes, contrary to what Vaaryys implies.

You may have many 1:1 webcam conversations simultaneously, although you cannot webcam in a multi-conversation.

You would be uploading your stream n times, where n is the number of other viewers. This is obviously less efficient than having it sent to a dedicated server and redistributed, which reqires only a single upload.
