<div class="IPBDescription">Very annoying!</div> Happens on one of my XP comps:

1.7ghz
256ram
9200pro 128mb.

It started about 2 days ago right after i did a defrag and virus scan. Virus came up negatory, so i turned it off. Next morning i go on, and the log of is slooooooow.

I hit the log off button, and it closes 1 or 2 programs, and just sits there for a minute or two. Then it says. "Logging off..." for another minute, then finally logs off. Happens under all names (all of em admins) And i havent changed a thing.

Oh, and <b>I want to solve this without a reformatt</b> this sucks, all i did was a defrag and virus scan... <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Usually this kinda of stuff means windows is waiting for some program or whatever to shut it self down before windows goes in and axes them <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    First, go <a href='http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm' target='_blank'>here</a> and disable all unneeded services.

    Next, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control in your registry and change WaitToKillServiceTimeout to "2000".

    I have a similar problem. After reinstalling Win2k it takes AGES for it to finish the "saving settings..." step of the shutdown. I already have more services shut down then are even mentioned in the MonsE tuning guide and no applications are running when I shutdown, so what else could the problem be?

    i would think its probably because of that 256 mbs of ram u have. i think 512 is the minimum u should have.

    Have you got it set to clear the pagefile on reboot, if so, disable that, that will cut <s>a bit of time</s> quite a lot of time off the shutdown.
