go to a real library. its hella slower than the internet, but if the year's grade is worth an evening to you (which it should be) dedicate an entire evening to being at the real library. theyve got books on everything, probably more than several on the hong dynasty. Itll take you an hour to find the right area, then several more hours to read enough material, but thats why i said to dedicate an entire evening.
yes, you can afford to lose one friday. (youre not going to remember one more friday night out with friends in five years, but you will remember that awesome paper you did way back when)
And I can't drive yet, and the library is like, 20 miles away.. school library = no help at all <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--><!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
EDIT- yeah, I know, I can't spell worth ****
if you are old enough to be dropped off alone at the library, then your parents sickness is not an excuse, it takes only a few minutes to drop you off and pick you up. (with a scheduled pickup time, or a few quarters for a payphone call, if you dont have a cell, the public library will have a payphone).
if that doesnt work, ask your best friend and their family can potentially get you a ride, im sure your friends parents would jump at the chance to have their kids hang out at the library instead of the mall. he/she should also be willing to help you with the project.
as a last resort, there are taxi services in every populated town. it may cost you ten dollars each way, but is the course's grade worth that to you? (damn well better be, considering what your parents pay in taxes for the school system). (also, make very well sure that the taxi doesnt get confused and wait for you outside the library several hours, he will run up a thousand dollar bill)

Are you sure that's the correct name for the dinasty? Do you know when it begun/ended?
Which was established after succeeding the Qin Dynasty. (the Qin where the chineses dynasty that was ruled by the emperor whom Jet Li tried to assassinate in the movie Hero btw)
The early Han dynasty was formed out of the opposition to the Qin legalist state.
They consisted of primarily the members of lower society who had been forced to do military or labor service on projects such as the beginnings of the great wall of china (which was first started under Qim Emporer Zheng and was continued for several hundred years)
King Zheng was the first emperor to take on the new title of Shi Huangdi "First August Emperor" he took over the 6 largest nation states of china and unifed them. he created a single formal writing, numerical and language system. he built roads, and interstate highways that where larger and longer than the romans.
Back to the Han dynasty.
The first revolters (which included convicts/concripted farmers and peasants numbered in the hundreds of thousands on these massive public works projects under the Quin.
At one point they where working on a large project which was delayed b rain. They decided to revolt. They new they would most likely die in the hard working conditions anyways so they felt they had nothing to lose.
For all its good intentions and chinese cultural and scientific advancements the Qin lacked humaneness and civility over their people, however the Qin ruler was still popular umonst the general population.
However the Qin emperor was always trying to gain immortality by trying out differnt potions. One of these eventualy killed him, After his death his unpopluar second son was to succeed him over his first born due to some underhandedness by his leaders. Several states broke off and revolted. The "mandate of heaven" had been lost as they saw it. (look mandate of heaven up im not gonna descrive that here.)
A new leader came to power. Liu Bang, who was the first Han emperor. He reigned from 206-195BC) He won popularity for critizing the harsh laws and penalties of the Qin. yet with only a few expetions he kept most of the legalist laws in place during his rule. Although he did reduce some of the more savage punishments such as branding and mutilation to simple fines.
blablabla I could go on forever... this is not even the tip of the iceberg for the Han period. Which was later considered to be the golden days of china.
Quick facts about inventions invented by the Han dynasty
Seismograph, paper, watermills, magnetic compas, ships with rudders for stearing, wood laquer and more.
China was relly advanced for its time. They fought with crossbows 1300 years before it even appeared in Europe. And unlike Rome, the chinese cities had waste management systems established so they woudlnt polute their rivers.
They even had clay bases to heat their beds lol.
if you want to know more info send me a PM.
Im not gonna do the research for you but if you have any questions once you have started I might be able to help.
Im still studying Chinese. Korean, and Japanese history myself <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

hmm thats interesting, lol how old are your text books?
Currently there are translations of chinese into English that are conisdered the "offical" translations by both chinese and international scholars.
They are the older wade-giles translation version which came about a long time ago and the hanu-pinyin system which is the romanized version which was created by the chinese in the 1950s. Pinyin is the officaly recognised translation of the peoples repbuclic of china.
Both of these tranlations however spell it h-a-n- though.
The pinyin system for the most part spells the chinese words in english and pronounces them as they are to spelled to the english speaker.
exceptions:
In the pinyin system "q" is "ch" ex. qin = chin
"c" is "ts"
"ch" is "x"
"zh" is pronounced like the "j"
"xi" is close to "she" in english. close but not entirely.
Do realise that there are many sounds in the chinese language that do not exist in
english.
PS go here <a href='http://www-chaos.umd.edu/history/time_line.html' target='_blank'>Chinese dynasties</a>
Its a timeline of all the chinese histories. No Hong though. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I looked thorugh my books to and didnt find it either.
And CplDavis, I didn't get that out of any textbook from school. I get most of these facts from the books by Tom Clancy (He does both fiction AND non-fiction now <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )
By the way, Qin Shi Huang Di and Han dynasty is over-rated. Qin Shi didn't even do a very good job unifying China, his dynasty barely lasted half a century. And he wasn't even the first to unify china, There's the eastern Zhou dynasty before that.
Tang dynasty for the win. Li Shi Min rocks.

The first is a paper about the Hong dynasty, with their rocket belts and genetically modified labor-animals.. extolling the virtues of their solid-harmonic sculpture and matter conversion power plants. Then end that the paper had to be this way, as there IS no 'Hong' dynasty, so either it was to be written about a future Chinese dynasty, or that the outdated textbooks need replacing. Note at the end that a second report, about the Han dynasty, is available and complete.
Then hand in the second paper, properly constructed about the Han dynasty, written as a term paper should be. Depending on your teacher, you might even score bonus points for the first paper if he's irritated at the underfunding too. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Ahh...brings backs memories...though I must admit we never quite got the heroin-usage back in my day, just blow in the bathrooms and knife fights on the buses.
And I compeltly sympathize with out-dated books. Back iwhent eh Taliban seized power I tried to do a report on Afghanistan, and couldn't find any materials that didn't pre-date the Soviet invasion. And I didn't even have the interent to turn to.
Ah well, good luck, with your report and high school in general.
