about video game violence
So today in my junior english class we were assigned the task of picking a topic to do a small speech about. I chose video-game violence and how the media depicts it as my topic. If anyone knows of any good articlles about it please link me and you will have my gratitude. your opening line should be
"I play violent videogames! I could snap at any moment!"

and get kicked out of school hooray!
I mean look at all us sane healthy, non violent gamers.
Both of us!
It's true. A good Speaker regales the crowd and appeals on many levels. IF you want to make them really remember your speech, make it informative (get what you want to say across, without throwing too much at them at once), make it interesting (choose information to tell them that they can understand and put jokes or some other form of witticism in between each block of information), make it interrogative (ask rhetorical questions of them, inspire thought in them about the subject so that they are actively participating in your speech even though they aren't speaking back to you) and make it incredible (blow them away by having it memorized or give them an anecdote they won't forget or keep them laughing the whole time or inspire them to think about what you have to say).
I hope that helps.
The Big 4:
Informative
Interesting
Interrogative
Incredible

What he said.
But then, that's the Daily Mail. :)

Also, keep it as short as possible. Nobody likes a long speech.
As for an introduction, I used the following quite successfully a while ago:
"I have a confession to make. I killed my friends. All of them.
I shot them, bit them, maimed them, poisoned, strangled, burned and drowned them. I pushed them into bottomless pits and nailed them against walls. Afterwards, we sat together and discussed the best moments."

D&D?
Q3, TFC, Pandora Tomorrow and UT2K4, actually. What can I say? My friends aren't really into NS.

Now that, is one hell of a good way to get their attention and have them laughing. You put them in the right "mode" to actually hear your speech.
If this is a high school audience you are giving it to, expect them to try to act as bored and irritated as possible, so you have to go for maximum effect.

Alas, a malady that afflicts too many of us NS players, I suspect.

Also mention the fact that usually games that are blasted for their violence usually get many parts overlooked. For example, in the whole Manhunt thing one of the accusations was that you randomly went round killing for no reason. And if I recall there was a nice storyline that went with it.
